Lois Bixby
Thompson
THOMPSON — Lois Bixby Thompson, 86, of Thompson Road, died Oct. 24, 2012, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She was born March 14, 1926, in Worcester, daughter of the late Raymond and Elsie (Perkins) Bixby. She was a 1944 graduate of the High School of Commerce in Worcester, and in 1948 a graduate of Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing.
Lois worked as an RN at Worcester City Hospital in Worcester, George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven. She also worked as an RN at Worcester Boys Club Camp in Sterling, Mass., for five years and at the Putnam Visiting Nurses Association for four years. She worked at the John Dempsey Regional Center for the Department of Mental Retardation in Putnam, for 21 years as the Director of Residential Programs, retiring in 1989. While there she was voted Citizen of the Year in 1978 for her work with the mentally retarded and coordinating trips each year for her clients to have vacations to different places such as Disney World and Washington, D.C.
Lois lived in Thompson since 1962, a member of the Thompson Congregational Church, a member of the Thimble Club, belongs to the City of Worcester City Hospital Alumni Association, Brooklyn Bird Club, Audubon Society, a Volunteer at Dempsey Center and Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. Joined Learning in Retirement when it came to this area.
She leaves her Son David Clark Thompson (Anne) of Ewing, N.J.; grandson Eric MacKenzie Thompson of Boston; two step-grandchildren Heidi and Cody Buck; three nephews Dana, Daniel, and Duane Bixby and their families of North Carolina; friend Sally Kneeland. She was predeceased by her brother Bruce E. Bixby.
The Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 in the Thompson Congregational Church, 347 Thompson Rd. Thompson. Burial will be private in East Thompson Cemetery. Donations: Thompson Congregational Church. They will distribute it to local needs. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Barbara L. Breton
MOOSUP — Barbara L. Breton, 78, of Moosup died Oct. 22, 2012, at the Regency Heights Health Care in Danielson. She was the wife of Robert J. Breton Sr. They were married Feb. 10, 1954. She was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Pomfret, daughter of the late Luther and Erma (Bumpus) Ladd. She was employed at Anchor Glass for many years. She leaves her husband Robert J. Breton Sr.; sons: Robert J. Breton Jr. of Webster, David Breton of Millbury, Mass., Dan Breton (Donna) and son Danny of Moosup; a daughter: Patricia Riley (Matt) and daughter Jen Goyette of Auburn, Mass. The Funeral was Oct. 25, at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.

PUTNAM — Mark A. French, 48, of Chapman Street., died Oct. 23, 2012, at home. He was the companion of Patricia Jensen. Born in 1964 in Southbridge, he was the son of Lucille (Guyette) Romanowski of Worcester, and the late Kenneth French.
Mr. French worked as a self-employed screen printer. He enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, playing pool, and was the captain of KNM Screen printing softball team.
In addition to Patricia, he leaves his children, Zakkary R. French of Putnam; Jackie Cox of Worcester, Michael Cox of Gardner, and David Hollamond of Webster; his brother, Richard French of Maine; his stepmother, Norma French; and four grandchildren.

DAYVILLE — Sylvia A. Grimes, 67, of Dayville died Oct. 22, 201, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the wife of Ronald Grimes.
She was born Aug. 14, 1945, in Hartford, daughter of the late Walter and Winona (Hill) Douglas.
She worked in Housekeeping at Regency Heights in Danielson.
She was predeceased by a daughter Winona Brown.

Jeanine L. Hamel,

PUTNAM — Jeanine L. “Aunt” Hamel, 72, of Ballou Street., died Oct. 28, 2012, in Matulaitis Nursing Home. Born in 1940 in Webster, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Muriel (Dumouchel) Hamel.
Mrs. Hamel worked as an order picker for Staples, at Day Kimball as an LPN, and for
Frito-Lay as a quality control inspector. She was the president of the Thompson Senior Citizens, and Chaplin of the Quinebaug VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed word searches and playing bingo.
She leaves her daughter Michelle Rain and her fiancĂ© Geoff McLewis of Pomfret Center, her sister Rachel Wajer of N. Grosvenordale; grandchildren, Ethan Rain, and Kane McLewis; she was a special “Aunt” to many. She was predeceased by her son, Glen Rain.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 5 in Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Carl Marohn Jr.,

DANIELSON — Carl F. Marohn Jr. died Oct. 25, 2012.
He was born Dec. 4, 1921, the son of Carl and Elsie (Bustrien) Marohn. He graduated from Neenah High School in Neenah, Wis., in 1940.
He served in WWIIII in the Philippines and New Guinea. During WWII he was in the Signal Corps (“Company C”) and later transferred into the U.S. Air Force.
After he returned from the war he married his high school sweetheart Mildred Phoebe (Brien) Marohn on Jan. 5, 1946, and had four children. She died in 2003. They lived in Neenah, until 1958 when they moved to New Milford.
He worked for Kimberly Clark for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement he moved to Poultney, Vt., and traveled extensively with his wife in their motor home. Their last move was to Danielson in 1990.
Carl was always an active member of his church and community. He was head trustee of the United Methodist Church of New Milford for 10 years. As a father he was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and playing cribbage. Recently he served as the chaplain at his local soup kitchen and as a member of the prayer chain and building committee of the United Methodist Church of Danielson. He was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4908 of Danielson.
He leaves four children: Harry Van Guilder of Roanoke, Va., Sandra (Marohn) and John Goodman of Shakopee, Minn., Ronald Marohn (Katherine) Marohn of Tolland, and George Marohn and Loretta Vallely of New Milford; 10 grandchildren: Dawn (Van Guilder) and Jon Huggins, Todd and Cindy Van Guilder, Stephen and Teresa Shanks, Mark and Kara Shanks, Christiane (Shanks) and Dave McCutcheon, Kimberly Marohn, Lori (Marohn) and Mike Kmec, Barbara Marohn, George JR and Kristy Marohn, and Sabrina Marohn; 12 great-grandchildren: Carla and Jack Huggins, Benjamin and Tristan Shanks, Wyatt Keuchenmiester, Kacey Shanks, Katie and Maya McCutcheon, Christopher and Noah Marohn, Jaden Marohn, and Killian Marohn; sister, Margaret (Marohn) Schultz of Neenah. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carla (Marohn) Van Guilder who died in 1986; grandson Christopher Matthew Marohn, great-grandson Matthew Michael Shanks; siblings Mayme (Marohn) and Jack Driscoll, Henry and Vivian Marohn, Gertrude (Marohn) and Fritz Weight and Margaret’s husband Norman Schultz.

Lucille Wlaszkiewicz,

WOODSTOCK — Lucille (Morrell) Wlaszkiewicz, 73, of Peak Brook Road, died Oct. 24, 2012, at home. She was the wife of Alex Wlaszkiewicz for 52 years.
Born in 1939 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Aurore (Remillard) Morrell.
Mrs. Wlaszkiewicz worked at Bates Shoe Co. until 1962, and then went on to work at Community Health and Home Care for 20 years retiring in 1993.
In addition to her husband, Lucille leaves her brother, Albert Morrell (Joan) of Leesburg, Fla.; her sister Claire LeBeau of Woodstock; her sisters-in-law Jeannie Morrell of Sturbridge, and Phyllis Stevens (George) of Brooklyn; She was predeceased by her son, the Michael “Wazz” Wlaszkiewicz; and her brother, Paul Morrell.

Aurore Roy,

BROOKLYN — Aurore E. Roy, 89, of Brooklyn died Oct. 25, 2012, at Westview Nursing Home in Dayville. She was the wife of George Roy. They were married Dec. 6, 1942, at St. James Church. He died in 2000. She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Canada, daughter of the late Conrad and Marie-Ange (Pouliot) Turcotte. She was the oldest of eight children.
She was a communicant of our Lady of LaSalette She attended St. James School and was a 1942 graduate of Killingly High School. She worked at Keeches.
After her marriage she worked at Inter-Royal as a welder, a position she held for 30 years. She was an avid bingo and card player. Aurore was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and of the UConn basketball teams.
She leaves her daughters Elaine Rzeznikiewicz (Edward) of Brooklyn, Cecile Smith (Dennis) of Dayville; brothers Sylva Turcotte and Norman Turcotte; sisters Theresa Cusson, Rita LeBeau, Mignonne Tourtellotte, Annette Ouellette and Cecile Ravenelle, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Charles E. Dwyer,

WEBSTER — Charles E. Dwyer, 89, died Oct. 26, 2012, in Overlook Masonic Health Center, Charlton. His wife of 59 years, June E. (Spahl) Dwyer, died in 2007.
He was born in Webster, the son of the late Richard J. and Helen (Deary) Dwyer. He was raised in Dudley and lived in Webster for 50 years before moving to Overlook Community in 2007.
He graduated from Bartlett High School. Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific area with the 108th Bomber Squadron and flew in and around Peleliu, Guam, Tinian and Iwo Jima on dozens of missions aboard a B-24 Liberator and PB-4Y aircraft. He was an aviation radioman first class and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was a member of the Machine Printers & Engravers of USA. He worked for 45 years at Cranston Print Works retiring as Print Room supervisor in 1984. Mr. Dwyer was a member of St. Louis Church and enjoyed volunteer work for the parish. A former member of Knights of Columbus Council 228.
He leaves three daughters: Kathleen Bolduc of Newport, R.I., Jane D. Carrington of Putnam, Mary E. Hegarty (Patrick) of Arlington, Mass.; three sons: John Dwyer of San Diego, Timothy C. Dwyer (Karen) of E. Lyme, Chuck Dwyer (Kathy) of Medway, Mass.; three sisters: Helen Groblewski of Webster, Betty Ann Quinn and Maureen Martin both of Dudley; 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers Richard and William Dwyer and a sister, Dorothy Groblewski.

Joseph M. Ondrasek,

WEBSTER — Joseph M. Ondrasek, 86, died Oct. 23, 2012, in Harrington Hospital, Southbridge.
He was born in Webster, son of the late Martin and Emelia (Mikalaj) Ondrasek and lived here all his life. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was retired from Shepherd Hill Regional High School, where he worked as a custodian. He was a member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion and the Slovak Sokol. He loved to dance, especially Polkas.
He leaves three sons, Paul Ondrasek of Webster, John Ondrasek (Irene) of Webster, David Ondrasek (Renee) of Thompson; a sister, Jennie Benoit of Webster; six grandchildren.

Helen B. Shaw
WEBSTER — Helen B .(O’Connell) Shaw, 92, died Oct. 22, 2012, after an illness. Her husband Clifford Shaw died in 1988.
She was born in Middletown, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Surprise) O’Connell. She lived in Virginia and Webster for 30 years . Helen was a resident for the past six years at Matulaitis Nursing home in Putnam.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, playing board games. She was an avid reader and fan of Jeopardy.
She leaves five daughters: Sandra Plasse (George) of Webster, Billie Cote of Las Vegas, Mary Thompson (Daniel) of Canterbury, Linda Jackson (Robert) of Florida. Dale Duquette (Arsene) of N. Grosvenordale; two sons: James Bellisle of Putnam William Auger of Dudley; grandchildren, great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Sons, David Bellisle and Francis Bellisle.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Webster. Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, Dudley.
