The NECONN U10 boy’s travel soccer team started its inaugural season on a positive note. This very talented team ended the fall season with a 6-0-1 record in the Northeast District which is part of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association.
A combination of strong defense and quality goal scoring provides the foundation for a very competitive team. The members of the team include James Phongsa, Jack Gillin, Justin Marcotte, Jeffrey Gibbs, Kyle Haynes, Clayton Singleton, Eli Werstler, Nate Levine, Collin Manuillow, Guerin Favreau, Gabe Geyer, and Kellen Horst. They are coached by Eric Werstler and Pete Gillin.
“So far, the enthusiasm both at games and during practice has been great,” said Werstler. “They work hard individually and as a group. The combination of talent and hard work make for a very special team. I look forward to coaching this group of kids for years to come.”
The NECONN U10 Boy’s team travels throughout northeast Connecticut to compete with towns such as Tolland, Bolton, Coventry, and Willington, to name a few. The team practices a couple of nights a week and plays its games on Sundays.
“The commitment is great but the reward is wonderful,” said Werstler. “You get to see quality soccer being played at such a young age. It’s satisfying both as a coach and as a parent”.
The team hopes to continue its success in the future. They will be competing at Five Star Academy in Oxford, Mass., this winter in an indoor league. Next spring they will once again be competing in the CJSA Northeast District.
