The passing of Thanksgiving Day witnessed the formal conclusion of the local high school and prep school football season. Although none of the local high schools reached postseason play and only Hyde-Woodstock played in a prep bowl contest, there were a number of local players in the scoring parade. The Eastern Connecticut Conference also announced its All Stars for 2012.
Scoring Leaders
Jay Watkins of Hyde-Woodstock emerged as the 2012 scoring champion with 158 points on 26 touchdowns and one two-point conversion. Killingly’s Tyler Stucke finished second with 122 points on 18 TDs and seven two-point conversions. In third place was Jordan Federer of Plainfield who tallied 96 points on 14 touchdowns and six two-point conversions.
Watkins’ teammate Daniel Palmer finished fourth with 74 points on 12 touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Rounding out the Top Five is Plainfield Panther Mason Delorge with nine touchdowns and three two-point conversions for a total of 60 points.
The remainder of the scoring leaders are: 6th Nick Hewitt – Killingly (58 points); 7th Steve Jankowski – Plainfield (39); 8th a trio of Quinebaug Valley players, Jesse Alexander, Tylor Genest, John Sanderson (36); 9th Isaiah Moone – Killingly (33); 10th Randy Higgins – Quinebaug Valley (32); 11th Darren Estrada – Pomfret and Hector Fuentes – Quinebaug Pride (30); 12th Conor McLaughlin – Hyde-Woodstock and Travis Zurowski – Killingly (26); and 13th Connor Pion – Quinebaug Valley (25).
ECC All Stars
Large Division 1st Team: Hollis Morin – Woodstock, kicker. Honorable Mention: John Vangel and John McGinn – Woodstock. Sportsmanship: Mike Stringer – Woodstock.
Small Division 1st Team: Colby Cyrus – Plainfield, center; Dane Grauer – Killingly, lineman; Nick Hewitt – Killingly, receiver; Tyler Stucke – Killingly, running back; Isaiah Moone – Killingly, linebacker; Jordan Federer – Plainfield, linebacker; Mason Delorge – Plainfield, back; and Steve Jankowski – Plainfield, kicker.
