Local fire depts.win grants
Senator Jeff Gordon (D-35 District) announced $22,000 in grants to nine local fire departments for 2024 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grants for public safety equipment, support, and training:
— Bungay Fire Brigade (Woodstock) – radios and personal protection equipment
— Community Fire Company (Thompson) – high-angle rescue gear
—Eastford Independent Fire Co. #1 (Eastford) - hose, lights, pagers, and blowers
— Hampton Fire Company (Hampton) - tower light, back pack pumps, leaf blower, hand tools and chainsaws
— Muddy Brook Fire Department (Woodstock) – hydrant repairs, personal protection equipment, and electric vehicle emergency kit
—Thompson Fire Engine Company (Thompson) – large-diameter hose appliances, adapters, and tools
— Union Volunteer Fire Department (Union) - personal protection equipment, turn out gear, and hazmat training
—West Thompson Fire Department (Thompson) – large-diameter hose, roof saw, hose appliances, and tools
— Woodstock Volunteer Fire Assoc. Station 76 (Woodstock) - turnout gear.
These matching federal grants are up to $2,500 for volunteer fire departments in communities less than 10,000 people. Gordon thanked the DEEP’s Division of Forestry that administers the program in Connecticut.
