William ‘Bill’ Nadeau
MOOSUP - William “Bill” Nadeau, 96, died peacefully Feb. 18, 2026 while at Colonial Health & Rehab in Plainfield.
He was born in 1929 in Central Falls, R.I. to the late William and Dora (Jacques) Nadeau.
As he grew, Bill put his sights on a beautiful young lady Joyce Despathy, and went out of his way to cross paths with her. She would later become Bill’s wife in May of 1950.
Bill began his furniture career by working for Despathy Furniture in Moosup delivering furniture, appliances and gas. He worked in sales and laying carpet. In the 1970s, Bill managed the Danielson store of Despathy’s Outsville. After the Moosup store burnt down (and with Wilfred Despathy’s help) Bill and Joyce opened Bill’s Bedding in 1979. Bill and Joyce made many additions and improvements to the current building, and brought name brand furniture to the Quiet Corner. In 1993, Bill and Joyce retired, passing the business down to their sons Gary and Gerard, who in turn passed down the business to the fifth generation, Gary’s daughter Deana and Gerard’s son Colin in 2023.
Bill’s Bedding has become one of the premier furniture stores in NE CT, following the values and business ethics set by Bill.
Bill rebuilt a business, expanded on that business, all while being a member of the Moosup Volunteer Fire Company including being its oldest life member until Feb. 18. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Florida, playing golf and being with family.
Bill leaves his daughter Linda Kerr (Rob); son Gerard (Carolyn) Nadeau and Gary (Anna) Nadeau; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
From the family: Bill will be greatly missed by all of us. He always had people coming to visit him, and you could always find him in his La-Z-Boy recliner in the living room or on his sun porch. There are so many stories that we could tell you about him, because he has been such a huge part of all of our lives. He was well respected and loved by all who knew him, and we are comforted in knowing that he is now reunited with his family who have passed on, especially his dear wife, Joyce.
A Memorial Mass will be held in April at All Hallows Roman Catholic Church in Moosup.  Donations: Moosup Volunteer Fire Department, 37 S. Main St., Moosup, CT 06354; or  Project PIN  food pantry, 23 Village Center Cir., Moosup, CT 06354. Dougherty Brothers Funeral Home, Plainfield.
