HARTFORD – State Representative Mike Alberts (R-50th) joined fellow state legislators for Opening Day of the 2015 Legislative Session in Hartford. He took the oath of office and was sworn in to his sixth term by Secretary of State Denise Merrill. He then participated in a Joint Convention of both the House of Representatives and Senate as Gov. Dannel Malloy addressed lawmakers about the 2015 Session.
Jan. 7 marked the first day of the General Assembly’s “long session” which will last for a five-month period ending on June 3.
For the first time, Rep. Alberts was named Assistant Republican Leader by Minority Leader Themis Klarides. Rep. Alberts will continue to serve on the Banks Committee. Alberts will also serve on the Higher Education and Employment Advancement and Commerce committees.
“A main focus of this legislative session will undoubtedly be the budget,” Rep. Alberts said. “As Assistant Republican Leader I will do what I can do ensure that our priorities are seriously considered.”
State Representative Mike Alberts represents the 50th General Assembly district towns of Brooklyn, Eastford, Pomfret, Union and Woodstock.

Janet B. Arcand and Philip J. Arcand of Putnam announced the engagement of their daughter Rachael E. Arcand to Jeffrey A. Martel, son of Linda Trahan LaBelle and her husband Bruce LaBelle of Woodstock.
Rachael is an ’05 graduate of Putnam High and an ’08 graduate of Quinebaug Valley Community College. She is working at the American Job Center as a workforce adviser and case manager.
Jeffrey also attended Putnam High ( ’99) and graduated Eastern CT State University in ’06. He is employed as the residential life director of international studies at Woodstock Academy. The couple will be living in Putnam and plan a Fall wedding.
