PUTNAM — Oct. 26, the Putnam Clipper Marching Band competed in the USBands New England State Competition and finished in third in the state and received recognition for “best overall effect.”. More than 40 high school bands competed.

The Electors and Citizens qualified to vote in the Town Meeting of the Town of Putnam, Connecticut, are hereby notified and warned that a Town Meeting of said Town will be held in Daniel S. Rovero Selectmen’s Chambers, Town Hall, 126 Church Street, Putnam, Connecticut on Monday, November 18, 2013, at 7:30 in the evening for the following purposes:
1. To choose a moderator for said meeting.
2. To determine the wishes of those present and eligible to vote at Town Meeting of the Town of Putnam upon a proposed amendment to the Town of Putnam Retirement Plan allowing the Town Clerk to buy back time under the plan for the period she served as Town Clerk from December 1995 to December 2000.
3. To determine the wishes of those present and eligible to vote at Town Meeting of the Town of Putnam upon the following resolution:
RESOLVED the Town of Putnam appropriate the sum of Twenty Thousand and 00/100 ($20,000.00) Dollars from the capital and non-recurring account to pay the town’s share with interest of a plan contribution for the Town Clerk for the period from 1995 to 2000.

PUTNAM --- The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) announced that the Putnam Board of Education has earned CABE Board of Distinction Award. This year marks the fourth year in a row that the Putnam Board of Education has earned this recognition by CABE. This year the Putnam Board of Education earned the award at a Level II ranking. In order to be selected for the award at this level, the Board of Education had to meet a strict standard of 20 criteria in 5 different categories. These categories include Board Leadership/Student Achievement, Board Member Professional Development, Policy, Community Relations and Related Organizational Leadership. This year’s CABE Board of Distinction Award recognizes the Putnam’s Board of Education continuing effort in maintaining high standards and advocating for all students. The award will be presented by the Connecticut Commissioner of Education, Stefan Pryor at the annual CABE/CAPSS convention on November 15th .
In addition, the Putnam Public School District was awarded two Communications Awards in the CABE 2013 Award of Excellence for Educational Communications contest. Putnam received an Honorable Mention for a brochure entitled Transition to Kindergarten and an additional Honorable Mention for a pamphlet for Early Childhood Screening. These publications will be displayed at the CABE/CAPSS convention in November.
