attend arts
conference
HARTFORD — Recently the High Interest Art Club from Putnam Middle School attended the 12th Annual Middle School Arts conference at the University of Hartford’s Art School. Each student was able to participate in two of the 13 artist led workshops.
The workshops that Putnam students took part included Plein Air Painting, Watercolor, Pen & Ink, Cartooning, Printmaking, Acrylic & Mixed Media, Fun with Freaky Fractals & Digital Media, and Kaleidoscopes. The conference was designed for students and teachers to partake in “hands-on” workshops and experience media that they may have never tried before. The Arts in the Middle conference helped promote visual arts among middle school students and provided opportunities for art students from diverse backgrounds to work together.
“I really hope we are able to come back to take these workshops next year,” said one 7th grade student from Putnam. Students were able to learn about and use new media. “I really like how we were able to take workshops about materials that we knew nothing about and use them to make a finished piece of art,” a 6th grader stated. Students also learned how artists work in the real world. “It was a great opportunity to learn from real artists, said one eighth grader from Putnam.
The 12th Annual Middle School Arts conference at the University of Hartford’s Art School was an amazing opportunity and experience for Putnam Middle School students. Each student can home with two art projects that were either completed or in progress. Putnam Middle School’s Art Teacher, Ms. Larrow, added, “It was wonderful to see our students excited about art and learning. I hope we are able to attend the conference again next year.”
