Sports 'Reunions'

Marie Odilè Miller
THOMPSON — Marie Odilè Miller, 69, died Aug. 24, 2023, after a long illness at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam.
Marie was born Jan. 25, 1954, in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada, daughter of the late Zoltan and Odilè (Fioè) Cserny and lived in Thompson for many years. She was employed at MAPFRE (Commerce) Insurance Company, where she worked as an administrative assistant to the Vice President of Claims and held other positions within the company.
Marie was an avid doll and Christmas nostalgia collector. She enjoyed spending time with her family and decorating for the holidays. She was well known for her love of animals and aid in rehoming dogs.
She leaves her son, Eric Fiske (Virginia) of Putnam; a brother, Patrick Cserny (Donna) of Boylston, Mass.; a sister, Mary “Mimi” Cserny of E. Sandwich, Mass.; two grandchildren, Avalynn and Aiden Fiske, both of Putnam; and her companion of 26 years, Robert Semon.

VFW kicks off
scholarship contest
PUTNAM — Commander Hans Lowell and Auxiliary President James Bradley of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Albert J. Breault Post 1523, announced the kick-off of this year’s VFW’s Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition. Local high school students in public, private, parochial schools or being home-schooled have the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington, D.C.
Students must write and record a three-to-five minute essay on the theme using a flash drive and present their recording, typed essay and completed entry form to their local VFW Post by Oct. 31. The 2023-2024 theme selected is “What are the greatest attributes of our Democracy?”

Interact Helping
Aug. 19 the Putnam Rotary’s Interact Club members began their day helping TEEG set up its backpack distribution. The distribution served 165 children and 75 families. Taking part were: Sofia Thurber, Serena Smith, Melanie Noonan, Jordyn Butler, Eric Levesque, Matthew Chase, Kaylee Beck, Ava Converse, Ava Hovestadt and co-advisor Woody Durst. The Interact club’s first meeting this school year will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 held at the Putnam Public Library.
