PUTNAM — The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse will present Nuts. This tense legal drama has been called the best courtroom melodrama since Witness for the Prosecution and The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. The show opens June 2 and runs for two weekends.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. June 2, 3, 9, and 10 and at 2 p.m. June 4 and 11. Tickets are $23 for adults; $20 for seniors, students, veterans and first responders. Due to content and language, Nuts is recommended for mature audiences.
Reservations may be made with a major credit card online at www.thebradleyplayhouse.org or by calling 860-928-7887. Tickets may be purchased at the theater box office, either before the performance, or at the door if available. Purchasing your tickets ahead of time is always a good idea.
The TNECT production of Nuts is directed by William Corriveau. Tara Golson stars as Claudia Draper. D. Robert Corriveau appears as Aaron Levinsky, her attorney, and Jonathan Demers is the District Attorney, Franklin MacMillan. Psychiatrist Dr. Herbert Rosenthal is played by Jim Douglas. Preston Arnold and Tonya Leigh Brock portray Claudia’s parents, Arthur and Rose Kirk. The cast is completed by Roy Simmons as Judge Murdoch, Adam Leidemer as Harry Haggerty, and Brittany-Paige Kimlingen as The Recorder.
Nuts was written in 1979 by Tom Topor, who drew upon his years of experience as a journalist covering New York City police stations, hospitals, and psychiatric wards. In 1987, it was made into a motion picture starring Barbra Streisand and Richard Dreyfuss.
Claudia Draper is a strong-willed, high class call girl indicted for manslaughter after killing a client in self-defense. Her mother and stepfather attempt to have her declared mentally incompetent, which would prevent a trial and cause her to be institutionalized. But is she really “nuts,” and can she convince the judge?

Take part in bridge project
POMFRET — First Selectman Maureen Nicholson announced that the Town of Pomfret is contemplating a project to replace the Bosworth Road Bridge over Mashamoquet Brook. The bridge replacement project would receive federal funds under the Federal Local Bridge Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
If undertaken, the project design would be expected to begin in June 2023, with construction likely in 2027.
Nicholson said local and state policy encourages early information to citizens on such projects and encourages people to raise any concerns with municipal officials early in the planning process. Persons wanting additional information should contact Maureen Nicholson, First Selectman, at 860-974-0191.
The Town would receive at least 80 percent reimbursement from federal aid for all three phases of the project (Design, Rights-of-Way and construction) with the remaining funds from the state to cover 100 percent of the costs associated with the bridge replacement.
The federal aid for the project was authorized under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) administered by the Federal Highway Administration and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
