In mid-August NOW Executive Director Tayler Shea, and Chubby Dog Coffee Company owner Adam Rondeau, partnered to host the Chubby Dog “Cold Brew for a Cause” fund-raiser to benefit NOW. The event raised $590 for NOW.
The Chubby Dog Coffee Co. donated 100 percent of the proceeds from all cold brew purchases made Aug. 13 through Aug. 15 to NOW. More than 10 gallons of the Chubby Dog signature cold brew was purchased over those three days, totaling $590 in funds raised for NOW.
“NOW is so thankful to be a part of such a supportive and generous community” said Shea. “We cannot thank Adam at Chubby Dog enough for the generosity that he has shown as a new business owner. Additionally, the support that we received from the community was truly amazing. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Chubby Dog to purchase their Cold Brew for a Cause to support NOW.”

PUTNAM — The American Legion Post #13, in conjunction with the town of Putnam, reworked the process for the veteran banners around town.
Banners will now stay up for two years then be retired and passed along to the veteran. There are more than 1,000 veterans from the town of Putnam and the goal is to ensure banners go up for as many as possible. Brian Maynard, immediate past commander of the legion, said honoring that many veterans “can only be done if we limit the time each banner stays up.”
The weather also has a significant impact on banners and bringing them down after two years assures they can be passed to the veteran in a presentable condition. Any banner that will be coming down can be requested by the veteran or family.
Those interested in having a banner should meet the following requirements
-Joined the service as a resident of Putnam; must still be living; be a current resident of Putnam; and be able to provide a copy of their DD-214.
Maynard said the banners are paid for by the American Legion and the Putnam Recreation Department; however, donations can be made to the American Legion Post #13 P.O. Box 123 Putnam, CT, 06260. Please note in the memo for “veteran banners.”

PUTNAM — The Savor the Flavor – Apples and Empty Bowl events raised $3,000 so far, with more coming in, according to Putnam Business Association Coordinator Sheila Frost.
She said more than 200 wristbands for Savor were sold and more than 100 bowls, created by potters at Sawmill Pottery. And donations were also made. Frost said “there were many walk-up sales since the bowls were all so beautifully handmade and colorful.”
She added 2021 boasted the most restaurant participation ever with 19 eateries creating unique apple offering. For the first time, there were four establishments that are mainly beverage and so a new category, “Beverage,” was added.
Judges’ Choice:
Runner Up in the Apple Beverage category went to Little Falls Nutrition for their Apple Crisp Shake and Cider Tea. First place went to Chubby Dog Coffee Co. for their Blueberry Lavender Apple Chai-der.
Runner up in the Apple Dish category went to Renee’s Bistro & Catering Service for their Mulligatawny (chicken & apple curry soup). First place goes to Nikki’s Dog House for their BBQ chicken mini taco w/apple cider slaw.
People’s Choice:
Apple Beverage goes to Chubby Dog Coffee Co.
And Apple Dish goes to The Hare & The Hound for their roasted apple & corn beef potato fritter, topped with a Moroccan-style beer, apple demi-glaze and house made apple sauce.
