JEWETT CITY — Several local organizations benefitted from the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation’s award of $10,300 to 10 organizations dedicated to providing youth and social services support.
Youth Services
As part of its commitment to helping support local youth, the foundation granted a total of $3,550 to four organizations dedicated to youth services. Among the grants was $1,050 awarded to Connecticut Boys and Girls State Foundation of Hawleyville, which will be used to sponsor students from New London and Windham counties to attend the American Legion Boys State Leadership Program and American Legion Auxiliary Laurel Girls State Program in 2021. The programs provide immersive government simulations to prepare students to become active and engaged civically minded citizens.
Receiving a $1,000 grant was Northeast Opportunities for Wellness Inc., of Putnam, which will use funds to obtain and distribute educational nutritional handouts and cookbooks at in-person or virtual events for children ages 3-14 who live in northeastern Connecticut.
Also receiving a $1,000 grant for annual support was Pomfret’s Performing Arts of Northeastern Connecticut.
Social Services
The Foundation also awarded grants totaling $6,750 to six local organizations. Interfaith Human Services of Putnam - Diaper Bank of NECT received a $1,500 donation to purchase diapers, wipes, potty training kits, and supplies for gift baskets provided to low and limited-income families.
Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens Center of Brooklyn was awarded a $1,050 grant to purchase a projector and screen used for audio-visual presentations that provide health and wellness, educational, and entertainment programs for seniors.
Northeast Placement Services of S. Woodstock received a $1,000 grant to purchase new tools for Iron Horse Landscaping, which provides employment opportunities for those with developmental disabilities.
