Organizers of the Particle Accelerator music festival announced today that the 2020 concert will be held entirely online Sept. 26.
The annual concert is typically held in June in Putnam’s Rotary Park, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers in May announced the postponement to September.
“Particle has always been about bringing people together,” said event founder Eric Gould.
“This year we’ll be online, but our mission of raising awareness, sharing music and spreading hope remains the same.”
Organizers said more information on the concert line up, schedule and where it can be viewed will be announced later on the concert’s Facebook page.
Particle Accelerator has two main goals. The first is to raise funds and awareness to support United Services, Inc., one of Connecticut’s most comprehensive private, non-profit behavioral health centers, providing mental and behavioral health education, prevention, treatment and social services to the children, adults and families of northeastern Connecticut since 1964.
The second goal is to provide information and support for depression and suicide prevention, while promoting music and civic engagement as a healthy alternative to drug and alcohol abuse among young adults.
The festival is held in memory of local musician Jack Young, Jr. and organized by local residents, business owners, musicians and artists.
“More than ever it is important for all of us to promote taking care of our mental health,” said event founder Grace Young. “There is hope and there is help and Particle and United Services are here for you.”
Funds raised will support United Services in their delivery of an array of mental health, substance abuse and social service programs to northeastern Connecticut. United Services offers mental health assistance 24/7/365 at 860-774-2020.
