WILLIMANTIC — The Communication Department at Eastern Connecticut State University held its annual Celebration of Excellence and the following local students were inducted into the communication honor society, Lambda Pi Eta: Timothy Chisholm ’19 of N. Grosvenordale. Chisholm was inducted into the honor society; Jeffrey Fontaine ’18 of Dayville. Fontaine received an award for Excellence in Television at Eastern TV.
DAYVILLE — Westview Health Care Center’s Kayla Belanger is the Employee of the Month for May, 2018.
She is a PhD of physical therapy working in the Sports Medicine branch of the Dayville facility. She has been a natural fit ever since she was added to the roster in 2016.
Having grown up in Pomfret, Belanger maintains strong connections to this Quiet Corner community. She studied at UConn, earning a degree in allied health sciences. She then earned her doctor of physical therapy degree.
She enjoys watching sports, cheering for teams like the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She also enjoys the outdoors, whether she is embarking on a camping trip or taking a hike with her wife Emily and their dog, Piper.

PUTNAM --- The Putnam Rotary Club awarded $18,000 in scholarships June 12. The scholarship amount was boosted by help from the Putnam Rotary Foundation.
Scholarship winners included: Shannon Gauthier, Tourtellotte, the Mo Beaulac Scholarship; Jenna Kochinskas, Tourtellotte; Morgan Graham, Tourtellotte, the Leon Archambault Scholarship; Maegan Roy, Tourtellotte. Doria Daviau, Putnam High, The Ray Brousseau Scholarship (four-year); Brianna Long, Putnam High; Natalie Ionkin, Putnam High; Tyler Fitts, Putnam High; Haley Armstrong, Woodstock Academy; Julia Bibeault, Woodstock Academy; Cassandra Gallant, Woodstock Academy, Ray and Vi Brousseau Scholarship; Eden Law, Woodstock Academy, John O'Brien Scholarship (two-year); Kiara Monahan, Woodstock Academy; Anna Murphy, Woodstock Academy; Maeve Stevenson, Woodstock Academy.
Thirty-three students applied for scholarships.
HAMPTON — Day Kimball Healthcare’s recent 3rd Annual D’Vine Wine Tasting raised more than $6,000 for the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of Day Kimball Healthcare. The fund provides financial assistance for cancer screening and treatment to northeastern Connecticut residents in need.
Day Kimball Healthcare Director of Development Kristen Willis expressed special thanks to StoneHurst, Craig Gates and Katalin Borner for donating use of the venue, and to Jenna Hayward, Dave Landry, and the staff of StoneHurst and Black Dog Catering for going above and beyond to accommodate the needs of the event.
