Cushing Academy 67
The Putnam Science Academy Mustangs second half of the season got underway Jan. 10 on the road against Cushing Academy. The Mustangs started off slow and never got going as they fell 67-63.
Jose Perez led Putnam Science with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Akok Akok chipped in 11 points and Kyle Lofton added 9 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds. PSA fell to 14-4  on the season.
PSA 110
Redemption Christian Academy 65
The Putnam Science Academy Mustangs defeated Redemption Christian  Academy 110-65 Jan. 12 at home.
In front of a packed house the Mustangs built a big halftime lead and were able to extend it in the second half.
Jose Perez was once again led the Mustangs with 16 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Senior Josh MBalla recorded 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Cam Gooden (14 points and 4 rebounds), Hassan Diarra (12 points) and Akok Akok (10 points, 8 rebounds) scored in double figures for Putnam Science as well.

The Woodstock Academy girls' hockey team had a chance to get some athletes who haven’t seen the playing surface as much as others some ice time against the Pomfret School JV girls hockey team Jan. 11.
The Centaurs rolled to a 5-1 victory at the Jahn Ice Rink at the Pomfret School.
“All of our regular starting forwards were dressed but only played a shift or two on defense in this game. We used three lines of less experienced forwards and six defenseman. As coaches we were very pleased with the play of our forwards who successfully played our defensive zone coverage and executed our forecheck very well in the offensive end,” said Centaurs assistant coach Sean Farrell.
Brittney Burnham scored just 25 seconds into the game to give the Centaurs the early lead.
Kileigh Gagnon followed with her first career goal for the Centaurs (3-2), off a rebound, with four minutes left to play in the first half.
Burnham followed with her second goal of the game to equal a tally by Pomfret. It gave the Centaurs a 3-1 first-period advantage.
Nicole Bavosi added a tally midway through the second period with a wrist shot that eluded the Griffins’ netminder’s glove.
Regan Stuyniski added a third-period goal for the Centaurs.
“Reagan and her line mates played a very strong game, seeing a lot of offensive zone time created by their strong forechecking and positioning on the ice. It was since to see them succeed in putting one in the net,” Farrell said.
It was also the first career tally for Stuyniski.
“Our less experienced defensive players, Ashley Angle and Hannah Clark, also played very well on defense. Our goalie, Kaily LaChapelle, made her first career start in net and played very well, allowing only one goal and notching the complete-game victory. She did particularly well in covering her rebounds and not allowing second opportunities,” Farrell said.
Boys split
The Centaurs boys’ hockey team had mixed results over the course of the week.
Woodstock Academy fell to 2-3 on the season when it lost to the E.O. Smith- Tolland cooperative at UConn on Saturday.
Jan. 10 the Centaurs made the long trek to North Haven for an 8:15 p.m. game at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
The made the best of it.
Jake Starr and Avery Riva both had hat tricks and Dylan Shea made 30 saves in net to lead the Centaurs to a 7-5 win over North Haven.
Jake Black had the other tally for the Centaurs and added three assists for the Centaurs. Pat Delaney added a pair of assists while Starr, Shea, Ryan Wojciechowski, Matt Odom and Liam McDermott all added one assist each.
