Great season
WILLIMANTIC — The Eastern Connecticut State University women’s volleyball team enjoyed another great season in the fall 2017 semester, advancing to the Little East Conference (LEC) semifinals for the third time in four years. The team concluded with a winning record of 18-9. Among the student athletes on this year’s team was Jacquelyn Orlowski ’19 of Woodstock, who majors in elementary education and liberal studies.
PUTNAM — Grandmaster Mike Bogdanski was recently featured in the book “Modern Masters of the Martial Arts”. The book features one prominent martial arts teacher from each art. The book focuses on actions and insights of the world’s classical fighting styles. Each expert was chosen for their meritorious skills and asked to demonstrate one technique that exemplified their respective art. Honorees were asked to provide a synopsis describing the strategies and philosophies of the art they are proficient in, along with a few words of wisdom.
Although martial arts were developed for war, they can be a vehicle for peace, unity and understanding. With the right teacher, martial arts practice can foster a warrior spirit, an ethical moral compass, self discipline and respect.
This book has been in the works for more than two years and was finally released this summer. The first printing of “Modern Masters” is almost entirely sold out.
Mike Bogdanski and Kristin Duethorn are the co-owners of Quest Martial Arts in Putnam.
