In addition, Ron is the owner and president of “RPC Associates,” a philanthropic business in Putnam that recently raised $3 million to build the new Hale YMCA Youth and Family Center. - A dream of Betty & Laurence Hale’s memorializing the late Newell Hale… and likely a dream that wouldn’t have come true without Ron’s hard work, leadership, influence and the trust that the people of northeastern CT have in him.
Whenever Ron is involved with an organization, any organization, he is “all in” and takes great pride in the work he is doing. While Ron certainly has his own way of doing things, you always know where he stands on issues and you would be hard pressed to find a person with more love for the people of northeastern CT and his community. It is for these reasons that the committee selected Ron Coderre for the Chamber’s 2018 Civic Achievement Award.
Ron has been described as one of the most recognizable and enthusiastic individuals in Northeastern Connecticut. That recognition is largely due to the countless organizations and initiatives with which he has been associated.
Some of those include but are not limited to the following:
A two-term president and past Board of Director for the Northeastern CT Chamber of Commerce; member of the Putnam Elks Club; member of the Knights of Columbus; former Alderman at Large in Putnam; past president of Putnam Little League where he coached for more than 13 years; past member of the Eastern Connecticut Board of Umpires for 15 years; past member of the St. Mary’s School Athletic Committee as well as past member & chairman of the Circle of Fun at St. Mary’s; one of the founding members and first President of the Putnam Business Association; past “Sports Talk” radio host for WINY Radio; past sports writer for the Sunday Norwich Bulletin; past sports writer for the Putnam Town Crier; a past president and member of the Putnam Rotary Club (Ron has been presented with two Paul Harris awards, Rotary International’s highest award. In acknowledgment for his years of service to ensure the Rotary Golf Tournament was a success, the club named the tournament the “Ronald P. Coderre Golf Tournament”); member of the American Legion Post # 13 since 1983 where he is currently serving as the commander. Ron received the Commander of the Year in 2016 and Legionnaire of the Year in 2017 (Ron was recognized for revitalizing the post both monetarily through fund- raising and with increased membership enrollment); Ron initiated and writes “The Beat”, a quarterly newsletter for the Putnam Police Department; from 2006 to 2016, Ron served as a board member for Marianapolis Preparatory School where he and his wife, Donna started a scholarship known as The Ronald & Donna Coderre scholarship to help defray the cost of tuition for local students attending Marianapolis; he serves as a mentor and liaison for local youths interested in enrolling in Assumption College or joining the armed forces as well as aiding individuals with techniques for interviewing and writing resumes; Ron is a Board member of the Hale YMCA Board of Advisors; he has also started two scholarships to aid local students who attend Assumption College through The Paul & Georgette Coderre scholarship at Assumption College and The Ron and Donna Coderre scholarship at Assumption College.
