WOODSTOCK — It was a morning of celebration for three members of The Woodstock Academy prep basketball team Nov. 11.

Chaylyn Martin, Jeameril Wilson and E.J. Dambreville took advantage of the early signing period and inked their National Letters of Intent.

Martin will be headed to Sacred Heart University in Hamden; Wilson to LeHigh University in Bethlehem, Penn., and Dambreville to Florida Southern College, a Division II school in Lakeland, Fla.

“These are the first three kids to sign from Woodstock Academy. They are carrying the flag for the Academy and they will always be a part of Woodstock Academy,” said coach Tony Bergeron.

Martin, from Hartford, who  had already committed to Sacred Heart prior to stepping foot on the campus in Woodstock, but signing on the dotted line made it official.

“It’s a great feeling to get that pressure off your shoulders,” Martin said with a smile. “I’ve known for a couple of months, but to sign the papers is a relief.”

For Dambreville, from Boston, it was location, location, location. “The location was nice, the (official) visit went well. I feel like it was the best fit for me,” Dambreville said. “I could have went Division I, but it’s all about fit. Whatever fits well, where you will play a lot and that’s what I thought about Florida Southern.”

Wilson, a Chicago native, didn’t have any offers when he first arrived on campus, but the 6-foot, 7-inch forward began to accumulate them shortly thereafter. LeHigh, a Patriot League school, just felt right to him.

“I just knew it when I got on campus that it was the place for me. I have a good relationship with the coaches and bonded with the team on the weekend I stayed there,” Wilson said.

 

 

Signed Letters 

Osun Osunniyi, second from left, and Aislinn Flynn from Putnam Science Academy signed their National Letter of Intents last week. Osunniyi will be heading to La Salle University in Philadelphia, while Flynn will be heading to Towson University in Maryland. Both are considered forwards and are expected to contribute immediately next year on the college court. Flynn becomes the first ever girls’ basketball player to commit to a Division I school.
