Legal Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the Town and Fire District of Pomfret that the First Installment of taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2016, is DUE AND PAYABLE August 1, 2017. The last day to pay without penalty is September 1, 2017. Per State Statute 12-145, interest will be charged at 18% annually (1.5% per month), with a minimum charge of $2.00 per each entity (Town and Fire are separate entities) on all delinquent payments postmarked
September 2, 2017 or later.
To view or pay your bill online, go to www.pomfretct.gov. Please make all checks payable to Pomfret Tax Collector. The mailing address is 5 Haven Road, Pomfret Center, CT 06259. If a receipt is desired, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Tax office hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Town Hall is closed on Fridays. If you have any questions, please call 860-974-0394.

MEETING NOTICE
Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless (“Cellco”) will host a Public Information Meeting on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 7:00 PM at the Town of Pomfret Senior Center, 207 Mashamoquet Road, Pomfret Center, CT to discuss plans by Cellco to construct a wireless telecommunications facility on property at 72 Ragged Hill Road in Pomfret.
At this site, Cellco proposes to construct a 150-foot monopole tower and related equipment, including a diesel-fueled back-up generator, within a 50’ x 50’ fenced compound. Cellco’s antennas and remote radio heads would be located at the top of the tower.
The telecommunications facility described above is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Connecticut Siting Council pursuant to the provisions of Section 16-50g et seq. of the General Statutes and are subject to change. Technical information regarding the proposed facility is available for review in the First Selectman’s Office and the Planning and Zoning Department at the Pomfret Town Hall, 5 Haven Road in Pomfret Center. Footnote 2 (Max. Height in PD District) Building height may be increased to sixty-five feet, provided that for every foot of height in excess of forty feet, there shall be added to each yard requirement one corresponding foot of width or depth, except for existing non-conforming structures that lack sufficient yard depth or width to meet this requirement. Any such non-conforming structures will be subject to the Special Permit requirements to Section 502 C-1, for any such height increase.

Longtime area educator and outgoing Post #13 Jr. Vice Commander Albert L. Cormier was honored at the Installation of Officers as the Post’s Legionnaire of the Year 2016-2017. Cormier, a retired Army Major and Vietnam veteran, serves as the chairman of the Children and Youth Committee, overseeing the scholarship program, the oratorical contest, Americanism activities and Boys’ State selection. He’s also active in a number of areas involving programs for veterans and Post fund-raising activities.
Cormier is a graduate of St. Francis College in Maine. He holds advanced degrees from Assumption College and Worcester State University. He’s been involved as an educator, counselor, coach and administrator at Marianapolis Prep, Putnam High School, Woodstock Academy and Putnam Science Academy. He’s a member of the Putnam Lions Club, where he leads the teen arm of the organization, the Leo’s club.
“Cormier is a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a great American. He’s worked tirelessly on behalf of the young people of our area for years. His input to the Post’s youth programs has been significant. He was the perfect choice for Legionnaire of the Year,” said Commander Ronald P. Coderre.
Cormier and his wife of 43 years, Joyce are the parents of two adult daughters, Amanda and Carolyn. They have two grandchildren.
