‘warmth’ drive
PUTNAM — Winter is a few months away, but the Knights of Columbus councils in the region need your donations today of clean, used winter coats for men, women and children.
Also needed are clean, used blankets and baby clothes in good condition, for needy people throughout northeastern Connecticut.
We all know that spring is a good time to clean out your closets, so we’re asking you now, so we can give the clothing away to needy, local families this fall, strictly on the basis of need.
If you have a winter coat or a blanket or baby clothes to donate, please call Brother Knight Cliff Soucy, at (860) 774-1967, or Brother Knight John Ryan, at (860) 928-7241 and leave a message.

Memorial Day

EASTFORD — May 29 Eastford’s Memorial Day Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Eastford Elementary School. Community members are invited to join the parade.
Immediately following the parade, a Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at the Veteran’s Memorial in front of the Ivy Glenn Memorial in the center of town. The ceremony includes an invocation, the recognition of an Eastford Veteran, the laying of a memorial wreath by the scouts, a Military Salute, and musical presentations by the Eastford Singers, the Woodstock Coronet Band, and Eastford Elementary School Students.
Weather and availability permitting, a National Guard airplane flyover will take place. Preceding the parade, Memorial Day services will take place at the General Lyon Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. and the Grove Cemetery on Rt. 198 at 9 a.m.

May 5 The Arc Quinebaug Valley publicly presented new members being inducted into the 1952 Society with certificates and 1952 pins at the Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Night Celebration.
“Our agency appreciates the generosity of The 1952 Society. With their support, The Arc is able to thrive and provide a successful and bright future for the individuals we serve by continuously enhancing programs and services.” said Susan Desrosiers, The Arc Quinebaug Valley executive director.
Businesses and Foundations present at the celebration that were inducted into the 1952 Society included Charter
Oak Federal Credit Union, Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation, Inc. and Quinebaug Valley Regional Rotaract Club.
1952 Society members that were unable to attend the induction, included: Bailey’s Team for Autism, Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, East Commerce Solutions, Inc., Dr. Roland Lupien, Thompson Lions Club, Weiss & Hale Financial and Westview Healthcare Center.
