PUTNAM — Putnam Science Academy Post Grad guard KeAndre Fair made his commitment to Coppin State University May 5.
Before coming to Putnam Science Academy for his post grad year, Fair had a stellar high school career at Weaver High School in Connecticut scoring more than 2,000 points and leading his team to four straight State Finals and one State Championship.
PSA Head Coach Tom Espinosa is proud of KeAndre, not just as a basketball player but as an all-around person, “I couldn’t be happier for KeAndre. Everyday KeAndre came to practice focused and worked as hard as he could. No one deserves this more than him.” Fair had started in 30 games for the Mustang’s this year while averaging 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists per game. Fair is the sixth PSA Mustang to commit to a Division 1 school this year.

Emily Vincent came across home plate to secure the victory, but leading up to that they scored a run and then a throwing error allowed two more runs which tied it up. That’s when Stephanie Daly hit a fly ball to the outfield which brought Emily Vincent in to score. Vincent had three hits in four at bats with a triple, RBI and scored three runs for the Tigers, to move to their eighth win and a 8-5 record on the year, and 4-3 in the ECC games.

POMFRET — Despite an unpredicted drizzle, spirits at the Camper Scamper 5K race/walk at the Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp in Pomfret were not dampened. The winning boy was Blake Hudock, 8, from Pomfret and the winning girl was Hannah Tracy, 13, from Brooklyn . Both received $50 gift certificates towards camp tuition, certainly worth racing for, as camp slots are filling up quickly.
Among the runners for the 5K that registered the day of the race were 13 students and a teacher from Rectory School. On Saturdays Rectory students have a variety of activities they can choose to do. Erin Bradley, a middle school math teacher at the school, likes to run 5K races and offers to bring along interested students as a Saturday activity choice. They proved to be formidable competitors, and the top three medal places for both the girls and boys in the 13 – 17 age group division were won by members of the Rectory team. Erin placed first in her age group and one student, Jihee Liu, placed third overall and went home with a trophy.
All money raised from this event go into the Jim Logee Campership fund to help pay camp tuition for kids who might not be able to attend without some financial assistance. Last year the camp was able to offer some campership support to 23 percent of all campers who attended in 2016.
Camp starts this year on June 25 and runs for eight weeks. The season ends with a 24-hour family camp offered on Aug. 18 and 19. www.4hcampct.org .
