with two
on the bubble

Most local softball teams are in the home stretch with the finish line in sight for the regular season schedule. Four teams, Tourtellotte Memorial High School, Woodstock Academy, Putnam High School and Ellis Tech have secured spots in the CIAC postseason tournament.
Despite qualifying for the States, Woodstock Academy suffered through a rough week, going winless, losing three games. Much like Woodstock, Killingly lost all three of its game last week. Tourtellotte was 2-1 as the Lady Tigers remain hot.
Plainfield enjoyed success going 2-1 on the week but still need one more win to qualify for the CIAC postseason event. Putnam split two games and Ellis Tech split four.
In the preps, Marianapolis was 0-2 on the week.
Lady Tigers Continue Hot Streak
Tourtellotte pitching held opponents to a total of two runs in two games as the Lady Tigers picked up a 16-1 win over Windham and an 11-1 verdict over St. Bernard. Tourtellotte is 12-5 on the season and 5-3 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference – Small Division. The Lady Tigers had one bump in the road, losing to Plainfield 6-5.
Emily Vincent (3-for-4), Grace Denault (4-for-5 and three RBI) and Christina Kopacz (home run) were the hitting stars in the victory over the Windham Whippets. Crystal Daly went the distance posting 11 strikeouts in the circle in the win over the Saints. Daly and Carinne Sosnowski each had three hits to carry the offense.
Following a disappointing 8-6 loss at the hands of Wheeler, Plainfield picked up a pair of wins. The Lady Panthers held on to an early lead and shocked Tourtellotte 6-5. Kacee Hirst had a pair of hits including a round tripper to lead Plainfield. Madison Kelley also had two bingles for the winners.
Plainfield closed out the week with another one run victory, a 5-4 nail biter over Lyman. The Lady Panthers won on a walkoff single by Kayla Rojas. Taylor Peloquin and Cali Joslyn also delivered key hits for Plainfield, which is 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the ECC - Medium.
Ellis Tech, playing four games in one week, lost its opener to University Classical 15-11 before bouncing back with a huge 24-8 victory over Constitution State Conference – East opponent Parish Hill. Autumn Jackson had a day that players dream of, driving in an unbelievable nine runs. Kirstin Light was the winning pitcher.
The Lady Eagles picked up a nifty 9-8 win over Grasso Tech in a contest that went nine innings. Rhiannon Sulik had three hits and four RBI for Ellis Tech. The Lady Eagles closed out the week in disappointing fashion, taking a 15-0, five inning ‘mercy rule’ loss at the hands of Norwich Tech. Ellis Tech is 10-6 on the season and 6-4 in the CSC – East.
Putnam opened the week on and upbeat note and closed on a disappointing note. The Lady Clippers, 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the CSC – East, beat Grasso Tech 12-3 behind a four-hit performance by Lindsay Roberts. Against Wheeler Putnam was unable to get its act together, losing 12-6.
Woodstock Academy suffered through a difficult week, losing all three of its games. They opened with a 10-2 defeat against a very good Norwich Free Academy team. That game was followed by a shutout, 7-0 loss to the Fitch Lady Falcons. The week ended with a 6-4 loss to Griswold, when the Lady Wolverines scored all their runs in a fourth inning uprising. Woodstock is 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the ECC – Large.
Killingly also suffered through a winless week, losing first to Bacon Academy 3-2, then falling to Stonington 15-2 and finally 12-3 to East Lyme. The Redgals are 6-10 on the year and 2-6 in the ECC – Small.
Marianapolis went 0-2 on the week, losing to Ethel Walker 6-4 and being shut out by Wilbraham & Munson Academy 3-0. The Lady Knights are 4-8 on the season.
