BOSTON — Leanne Torgersen, a Thompson resident, was named to the 2015 fall semester dean’s list at Simmons College in Boston. Her major is biology.
Honored
BOSTON — Three local students were named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the fall semester: Jiaxin Sun of Thompson; Alana Corey of Pomfret Center; and Michela G. Veillette, of Dayville.
Death investigated
PUTNAM — March 21 at approximately 11:30 the Putnam Police Department investigated the discovery of an unresponsive person on the lawn of 364 School St.
This person was identified as Nicholas Mayo, 28, of 383 School St.
An examination conducted by the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner confirmed initial police impressions that the cause of death does not appear to be criminal in nature. The investigation is ongoing.
Winner
Recently Black Belt Coleen Solitro was pronounced the winner of the Women’s “Best Of The Best”. This event is a sparring tournament held in Watertown, Connecticut, where martial artists from all over the eastern seaboard compete and raise money to contribute to charity. Solitro was undefeated in women’s competition. She is a student at Woodstock Academy and an instructor at Quest Martial Arts. Her mother, Kristen Finnemore is a previous winner of this competition.
