Senator Flexer wins award

 State Senator Mae Flexer (D-Killingly) received a 2015 “Community Champion Award” from the Connecticut Community Providers Association (CCPA) for her efforts and support on behalf of the nonprofit community providers in Connecticut who serve the most vulnerable citizens in the state. 

The award was bestowed on Sen. Flexer during the CCPA’s 46th Annual Meeting.

“I want to thank the CCPA for this award, and I want to thank the nonprofit community providers in Connecticut who have taken on the essential and noble task of working with about one out of every six residents in the state,” Flexer said. “CCPA members have been tremendous advocates for our state’s most vulnerable citizens, and their advocacy prevented drastic cuts to critical services this year. I will continue to protect and promote their hard work and their commitment to people with mental health issues, developmental disabilities and other challenges.”

“CCPA selected Senator Flexer as a 2015 Community Champion because she has distinguished herself as a bold advocate for Connecticut’s less fortunate,” said CCPA Board Member Heather Gates, the CEO of Community Health Resources. “In her roles on the Aging and Veterans committees, she has fought to support the critical human services that we bring to our state’s most vulnerable individuals. Senator Flexer has taken the time to learn our issues, and we look forward to a continued partnership in the upcoming session and beyond.”
