CNB helps pets

PUTNAM — Matthew S. Sosik, president and CEO of CNB, a division of bankESB, announced the bank has contributed cash and needed items to the NECCOG Pet Shelter. 

All the Connecticut branches, along with the Massachusetts branches of bankESB, had a collection to support the local animal shelters.

The Connecticut branches collected $666 in cash and 348 items for the NECCOG Pet Shelter.  The donations were collected from customers and staff during the month of May. There were collection boxes in each branch’s lobby.

Some of the items collected were gently used blankets, towels and other gently used pet supplies (beds, toys, crates, etc.). They also collected new toys, pet food and gift cards.

Donations and support from the community are what make it possible for these facilities to help animals, said Sosik.

WOODSTOCK --- Woodstock Academy and education turned blindness into a bright light.

Bruce Sakindi, president of the Class of 2016 likened the time before entering Woodstock Academy as a time of blindness. But lessons were learned and light dawned in school. He told his classmates that people change people. "We need to be the voice for people without a voice," he said.

"We begin a time of self-definition. This chapter is ending but our story is just beginning," he added. 

Michael Edward  Audet saw a similar benefit to education. He was the winner of the Kathryn Robertson Essay Award and read his winning entry, "Expanding the Conversation: The Worth and Value of an Education."

Valedictorian Kara Marie Heilemann and salutatorian Peixin Yu each received State of Connecticut General Assembly official citations.

The winners of the Yale Honor Cups were John Archambault and Heilemann.

The winners of the Donald and Hope Williams Scholarships for Outstanding Academy Achievement were Archambault, Yu, Heilemann and Shunhao Wu.
