A Nod to Spring
Lenten Rose may be a bit on the nodding side, but it's still a beautiful sign of spring --- and usually Easter. Linda Lemmon photo.

Accident at intersection
PUTNAM — A juvenile was issued a warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection after an accident at the intersection of School and Mechanics streets, according to the Putnam Police Department.
Police officers, Putnam EMS and the Putnam Fire Department responded.
Police said a 2005 Ford Five Hundred traveling east on School Street, operated by a 17 year old juvenile from Thompson, failed to grant the right of way to oncoming traffic when making a left turn from School Street onto Mechanic Street and struck a 2017 Ford Focus operated by Edward Hemphill, 56, of Woodstock.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed. Both occupants of the Ford Focus were transported to DKH by Putnam EMS for evaluation.
The juvenile reported they were uninjured and was issued a Warning for Failure to Grant right of way at an intersection.

Projects - Downtown Putnam
Top: This is the middle section of the Kennedy Drive Commuter Lot. It is being completely reworked and expanded. The project includes a new storm water management system which takes the water from the lot, under Kennedy Drive into some filtering basins before releasing the clean water into the Quinebaug. In addition there will be more parking spaces added including several EV charging stations. The entrance closest to the Rt. 44/Kennedy Drive intersection is closed. The new entrance to the lot will be further down, away from the congested intersection. Officials hope that the paving may be done the first or second week of May. Above: The 4,400 square-foot- expansion of Gerardi Hilb Group on Canal Street should start any way now. The parking that is currently behind the Gerardi building will move to the far end of the addition. Linda Lemmon photos.
