Avalanche, Bruins Tie
The Avalanche tied up the Bruins 3 – 3 Feb. 21 to secure the top seed in next Sunday’s Playoff Games. The Bruins scored first behind a great effort by Mike Scott to find an open Nick Alessandro for a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Then early in the second period Darien Shunaman had an unassisted breakaway goal that made it 2-0 Bruins. The Avalanche finally woke up when Gillian Black dished a nice pass over to her brother Jake to cut the lead 2-1. Then just before the end of the second period Bobby Boisvert scored on a pass from Jake Black to even the score at 2-2. The Avalanche took the lead when Max Paro poked in a pass from Joe Wilcox for the 3-2 advantage. The scored stayed 3-2 until the Bruins mighty B-liners Mike Scott again found Nick Alessandro to tie it up at 3-3. Both goalies were solid with Bruins net minder Tom Castle stopping 13 shots and the Avalanche’s Lex Bosio stopping 11.The Avalanche improves to 6-1-4 and the Bruins finished second at 5-4-2.
Lightning Roll Over Redwings
Lightning forward Darian Shunaman and B-line star Kyle Prouty lead the way for the Blue and White with two goals each to defeat the Redwings 6-1. The victory secures the third seed for the Lightning for next weeks playoff games. Doug Gerrity and Jack Liggett also scored goals while Josh McFadden, Darian Shunamen and Jack Liggett were all credited with assists. The Lightning defense was especially stingy allowing only one goal to Red Wing scoring machine Evan Cunningham. Max Paro was credited with the assist.
