POMFRET --- Despite a two-goal effort by young star Kyle Prouty the Lightning fell to the Avalanche 5-2 in the Griffin Youth Hockey League Championship game Feb. 28. Bruins Rally Late for Consolation
Game Victory
STORRS --- The underdog Red Wings took a 2-0 lead into the third period but couldn’t hang on as the Bruins rallied late to take the victory in the Consolation game 4-2. The Red Wings struck first with Evan Cunningham finding Jacob Privee for the 1-0 lead. Then it was Jacob Privee getting the assist to William Bernier to put the Red Wings up 2-0. That would be all the scoring allowed by the Bruins as their big defensive line stepped up and took the passing and scoring lanes away from the Red Wings. The Bruins Darian Shunaman caught fire in the third recording a hat trick with three unanswered goals. Adding to the scoring frenzy was Gillian Horst with an unassisted goal of her own to put the game away for good 4-2.  Assists for the Bruins were credited to Zach Gagnon with two and Cal Wilcox with one. The Bruins goalie Tom Castle stopped 12 out of 14 shots in the victory while Red Wings goalie Bethany Oliver stopped 9 out of 13.
