WPTP pg 9 10-7-10

The WPTP Hawks traveled to Stafford this week to take on the Bulldogs. The 12/13 year old team was looking to right the ship after two losses to RHAM (38-0) and Colchester (20-0).
Coach Joe Loomis dusted off the playbook that served the Hawks so well for the last several seasons and called a near perfect game. Steven Dakai connected with Quinlan Taylor from 15 yards out to give the Hawks an early 6-0 lead. Cody Lascola gashed the Bulldogs for big yardage with runs of 17,23 and 29 yards. He ended the day with over 75 yards of rushing and a touchdown. Dakai also hit a long strike to his favorite target Paul Siversten. Siversten galloped 30 yards for another WPTP touchdown. Gavin Corey rambled in from 8 yards out from the fullback position to put the last nail in Staffords coffin and gave the WPTP squad their first win in what has been a rocky start to the season. The defense was powered by Logan Putnam and Chris Rovero who led the team in tackles. Stafford found little daylight to run the ball inside or outside against the stout defense. Ryan Renshaw had big hit after big hit and Stafford could find no way to slow him down, never mind stopping him. Shawn Audet, known as Hollywood, intercepted a Stafford pass late in the game to stop what looked like a promising drive. The Hawks notched their first league win 26-6.
The 10/11 year old squad, coming off an exciting win last week against Portland was trying to extend its winning ways against Stafford. The Hawks kept it close with two first half touchdowns by Jacob Phaneuf. In a back and forth battle the half ended with Stafford leading 14-12. Mason Defosse threw the ball well and connected on a bootleg pass to Dimitri Key in the second half to set up Phaneuf’s third rushing touchdown. The Stafford offense proved to be a little too strong for the Hawks as the defense surrendered 20 second half points giving the Bulldogs a 34-20 win. WPTP travels to Enfield next week to take on the Ramblers.
