Hoops for
Hunger
is Oct. 23
By Claudia Ricci
Fifteen years ago, Brad Seaward, Assistant Headmaster of The Rectory School, jumped at the chance to combine two passions of his:  basketball and outreach.
The result was Hoops for Hunger, a free basketball clinic with a great hook.  By asking each participant to bring canned goods as “admission,” the program is able to help northeastern Connecticut families who need groceries.
At the same time, it satisfies the craving among Rectory’s varsity basketball players to be on the court and teach local youngsters some game tactics and ball-handling skills.
Brad’s wife and Rectory teacher, Mary Lou Seaward, responded, “It’s a win-win-win situation.”
Parents would be hard pressed to find a better way for their son or daughter to spend three Saturday mornings.  The clinics, open to local kids ages 8 through 13, take place from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Oct. 23 and Nov. 6  at Colhoun Gymnasium on the Rectory campus.  Call 928-4986 or 928-7750 for more information.
