THOMPSON --- Joy Richmond of Woodstock, a senior at Marianapolis Preparatory School , was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist. The 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program announced Richmond’s placement for her scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 2 percent, or 16,000 students of the 1.5 million who take the test, achieve this distinction. The students are entered into the competition upon taking PSAT/NMSQT in 2009. Richmond will be notified in early 20101if she progresses as a finalist. Approximately 15,000 semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level and it is from this group that all National Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen based on their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Emily Kneeland of Putnam, also a senior, was named a Letter of Commendation Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program for her scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Her score ranks her among the top 5 percent of students in the U.S. who take the annual college placement test. Headmistress Marilyn S. Ebbitt said, “It is always a proud day for our faculty, families and school when a student is recognized nationally. I am proud of these students’ accomplishments in the classroom, and beyond, and look forward to following their achievements as they graduate this school year.”
