DKH in the
black, 2nd year in row
PUTNAM — In 2010 Day Kimball Healthcare pulled in more than $1.1 million in net operating gain in 2010, on the strength of Day Kimball’s expansion of services and locations.
In a recent annual meeting John P. Miller, chairman of the board of directors, reviewed the organizations financial successes and accomplishments in fiscal 2010.
He said, “Through the hard work and dedication of all Day Kimball employees, the organization sustained financial stability under the leadership of President and CEO, Robert E. Smanik for the second year in a row.”
Day Kimball’s expansion of services and locations continue to support the overall commitment to better health for northeast Connecticut. Aside from the completion of the Lathrop Road Building to increase access to primary care, Day Kimball HomeCare moved its patient services offices from Plainfield to Griswold, creating more easily accessed care in the Griswold area. Also, the acquisition of the Kennedy Drive MRI in Putnam will increase Day Kimball’s geographic proximity and availability of services to more and more residents of northeast Connecticut.
Miller added, other accomplishments for 2010 included the complete renovation of the visiting area of the behavioral health services department for patients, the two-phase Customer Service/C.A.R.E. Initiative to enhance quality of care and patient experiences while staying at the hospital, successfully growing the medical staff to nearly 300 highly skilled physicians, surgeons and specialists, partnering with Jefferson Radiology enhance and expand diagnostic imaging services, welcoming Dr. Jeffrey Manning and Dr. Timothy Monahan who began offering sports medicine and dermatology services respectively in 2010 and donating mammogram and ultrasound machines to Togolese.
Services showing an increase included: diagnostic imaging services, the endoscopy procedures, special procedures and visits to the emergency department. Day Kimball HomeCare served nearly 62,000 residents. Day Kimball HomeMakers served more than 400 clients, totaling 84,556 hours. Volunteers at Day Kimball donated over 29,000 hours in various departments throughout the organization. All of these accomplishments could not have happened without the team efforts of the organizations 1,200+ exemplary employees. One such employee, Barbara Poulin, switchboard operator, was named Day Kimball Hospital’s employee of the year.
The net operating gain profit of more than $1.1 million is owed to so many people, once again giving credit to Day Kimball Healthcare employees, along with all of the community members and organizations that continue to support the organization, Miller said.
The President’s Report highlighted significant improvements that the organization has made and how the organization has been positioned to stand against the economic hardships facing healthcare today and in the future. Smanik described the reasons behind the expansion of Day Kimball’s services in Plainfield to meet the healthcare needs of that community as well as the up and coming Putnam Healthcare Center which will house physical medicine, blood draw services and Franklin Home Health.
