PUTNAM — A sure sign that spring has arrived in northeastern Connecticut is the return of the Children’s Educational Opera and Symphony Programs sponsored by Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut.
Putnam Bank Foundation recently awarded a $2,500 grant to the Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut.
This year school children in the region will be treated to free performances of “Hansel and Gretel”, presented in collaboration with the Boston Lyric Opera, and “Peter and the Wolf,” presented in collaboration with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts.
“Hansel and Gretel” will be presented at 10 a.m. and noon on April 28, at the Hyde School Cultural Center in Woodstock. “Peter and the Wolf” will be presented at 10:15 a.m. and noon on May 4, also at the Hyde School Cultural Center.
Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut seeks to increase exposure to and appreciation of the performing arts in this culturally underserved area of the state.
“The performances are well-received by the students and would not be possible without the support of loyal sponsors like Putnam Bank Foundation,” said Lindsay B. Paul, chairman for Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut.
