PUTNAM — Putnam Science Academy head basketball coach Tom Espinosa said the school has signed 6-foot, 5-inch, 225-pound forward Oscar Assie from Bridgeport. Cassie played at St. Joseph’s High School and led the Cadets the past year to the Connecticut LL state championship over Fairfield Prep.
Assie, ranked 31 in the state of Connecticut by New England Recruiting Report, averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds per game this past season for the 23-1 Cadets. The strong power forward is known for his toughness and athletic ability on the court.
“I think Oscar is one of the premiere athletes in Connecticut,” said Espinosa. “He has all the tools to be a terrific prep school and college basketball player. Oscar physically is ready for the highest level of college basketball. Improvement of his skills will be the key for this upcoming season for Oscar.”
Assie is the first to sign with the Mustangs for the 2011-12 basketball season. He will be joining returning Mustangs senior Zaquan Nelson of Waterbury and super sophomore Tyree Robinson of Fall River, Mass.
