Little League
goes full
steam ahead
By Steven Dakai
The Putnam Little League has enjoyed a great week of sunny weather to play baseball.
The Police Association Pirates started the season with two wins over the Pomfret Dodgers. In the first game Zach Cutler seemed unhittable and tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 batters. He also doubled in two runs to win his first game of the season 5-1. Pomfret’s run was part of a rally in the fourth inning that was stopped with a double play by Tamim Aldawracheh that ended the inning. The second of the “home and home” series sent the Pirates to Pomfret to face the Dodgers on their field. Ryan Whitehouse got the start at pitcher and kept the Pomfret hitters at bay for two innings. He helped his own cause with a run scoring double to give Putnam a 2-0 lead.
Aiden Ciquers came in to relieve Ryan and picked up the win for Putnam. Alex Morowski went 2-2, Jakob Prescott was 1-2 with and RBI. Jacob Straub got on base four times, scored three runs and played catcher the entire game. Putnam held on to win 10-8 in a 5 inning game called for darkness.
The Vision Center Red Sox hosted Brooklyn April 30 under a bright blue sky. Cole Andersen took the mound and pitched a gem as Putnam won 5-3. Conor Quinn and Jacob Brule led the offense for the Red Sox each scoring twice. Mitchell Barylski caught for Andersen and the two seemed to have the answer for nearly every Brooklyn hitter. Anthony Navedo, Scott Davagian and Cole Davagian all hit the ball well and were impossible to keep off the bases.
The Red Sox also travelled to Brooklyn but no score was reported.
