PUTNAM — Citizens National Bank has donated $1,000 to help support The Last Green Valley’s One True Color Campaign and to join the regional non-profit as a Business Partner Member.
The One True Color Campaign has a goal to raise $100,000 in donations, memberships and business partnerships for The Last Green Valley Inc., (TLGV) the region’s steward of this unique yet fragile area. It reaches beyond geographic borders and brings a regional perspective to benefit the 35 towns in northeast Connecticut and south-central Massachusetts united by shared natural resources.
TLGV is the only organization with this unique perspective.  And now, TLGV is at risk. TLGV was established as a federally funded organization in 1994, but this funding is scheduled to cease in 2015. TLGV must become self-sustaining through the support of residents and businesses that live, work, and play here. The donation by Citizens National Bank and many other businesses and residents will help ensure that TLGV can continue to provide a voice for our beautiful valley, said Executive Director Charlene Perkins Cutler.
“Living here, we can easily take our valley for granted.  Our streams and rivers don’t care about town lines or state borders. Neither does ecological damage. TLGV is only the regional entity speaking for our shared resources.  We are grateful that Citizens National Bank and other donors are supporting the one voice that works to protect our beautiful home,” she added..
David L. Conrad, president and CEO of Citizens National Bank, said, “The Citizens National Bank is always ready and willing to assist a great cause such as The Last Green Valley’s One True Color Campaign.  With the bank being an integral part of the area and in seeing the great work TLGV, Inc. does, it only makes sense that we become involved.  Our bank derives its success from our offices in The Last Green Valley and we enjoy giving back to it.  The One True Color Campaign is one way that we can do that, and to take great pride in our efforts as one of its Business Partners.”
The Last Green Valley is the popular name given to the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor that encompasses nearly 1,100 square miles in northeastern Connecticut and south-central Massachusetts and is notable for its distinctive and rural quality of life in the midst of tremendous growth from Boston to Washington, D.C.  The Last Green Valley remains 78 percent forest and farmlands; it is the third largest watershed draining into Long Island Sound; it has over 100 clean lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, seven state forests and five state parks, 16 wildlife management areas, hundreds of miles of hiking and water trails, and 1,000’s of acres of preserved open space.
