Irene Grzysiewicz,

DANIELSON — Irene Grzysiewicz, 82, of Danielson died May 23, 2011, at Pierce Memorial Baptist Homes in Brooklyn. She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Grzysiewicz. They were married July 1, 1961, in Webster. He died Dec. 9, 2007.
She was born May 7, 1929, in New Britain, daughter of the late Stanley and Winifred (Kochanek) Sugalski.
She had attended St. Joseph School and Bartlett High School in Webster. Irene made her home in Danielson for over 47 years. She was a communicant of St. James Church. From 1962 – 1966, she gave of her time as a Brownie / Girl Scout Leader at St. James School. Irene enjoyed sewing, craft projects, and home decorating. She worked part time at Killingly High School cafeteria.
She leaves her children, Thomas Grzysiewicz (Michele) of Dayville, Linda Aschenbach (Mark) of Brooklyn, Kathleen Kania (Walter) of Dayville; siblings, Walter Sugalski, Vincent Sugalski, Stanley Sugalski, Joseph Sugalski, Theresa McManamay and Dorothy Jolicoeur, grandchildren; Candice Hoy, Lori Gidopoulos, Ryan Kania, Derek and Jason Grzysiewicz; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Edward Sugalski.

Claire V. Weiss,

POMFRET CENTER — Claire (Roy) Weiss, 99, formerly of Deerfield Road, died May 24, 2011, in UMass Memorial Healthcare. She was the wife of the late Isadore Weiss. Born in 1912 in Taftville, she was the daughter of the late Frederic and Helen (Shea) Roy.
Mrs. Weiss was a homemaker who liked to cook, dance, decorate her home, and make ceramics. She was a former president of the Emblem Club. Claire was a constant source of love and strength to her family until her final days.
She leaves her sons, Robert Weiss (Patricia) of Waterford, and James Weiss (Nancy) of Pomfret; five grandchildren, Kevin Weiss (Elizabeth), Cynthia Oltmanns (Steven), David Weiss (Sherrie), Hadley Rosen (Todd) and Chelsea Weiss; and seven great-grandchildren, Caroline, Emily, Victoria, Nicholas, Kyle Abigail and Kirsten. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Roy; and her sisters, Camilla Caisse, and Celeste Bucko.
The Mass of Christian Burial was May 28 at Most Holy Trinity Church, Pomfret, with burial in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. Donations: Most Holy Trinity Church, or to a charity of your choice. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. Putnam.
John M. Tatem,

EASTFORD — John M. Tatem, 94, of Eastford, died May 23, 2011, at Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth (Peterson) Tatem. She died in 1996. He was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Willimantic, son of the late Harry and Margaret (MacNeil) Tatem. He was a 1935 graduate of the Carson Long Military Academy. John was associated with the family business, Tatem Manufacturing in Eastford for over 40 years. John was a printer at Shore Line Times in Guilford, retiring in 1975. He had attended the High Pointe Church in Thompson and the Eastford Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Connecticut State Police Auxiliary and the Eastford Volunteer Fire Department. John made his home in Eastford most of his life, and spent many winters in Florida.
He leaves his daughters: Margaret Jackson (Robert) of Fishers, Ind.; Cynthia Foskett (Harold) of Woodstock; a brother Stewart Tatem of Eastford; grandchildren: Dr. Robert Jackson II, Dr. Thomas Jackson, Susan Bil,; Sharon Harmon, Craig Kallgren, Duane Kallgren, John Kallgren, Carl R. Kallgren; 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Olive Walker and his stepmother Floy Tatem.

Matilda Duchesne,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Matilda (Larose) Duchesne, 95, of Riverside Drive died May 23, 2011. She was the wife of the late Jean M. Duchesne. Born in 1915 in N. Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Malvina (Boucher) Larose.
Mrs. Duchesne worked as an oiler for Rison Manufacturing Company, and the North Grosvenordale Mills. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
She leaves her sister, Yvonne Dion of Auburn; a cousin and caregiver Connie Olmstead of Putnam. She was predeceased by her brother, Omer Larose.

Agnes B. Knorr,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Agnes B. Knorr, 87, of Main Street died May 28, 2011, in Putnam. She was the wife of Alfred Knorr for 66 years.
Born in 1924 in New Bedford, Mass., She was the daughter of the late Hormidas and Aurora (Hebert) Varieur. Mrs. Knorr worked as an inspector for the Jacobs Rubber and for US Button Company. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a son Maurice Knorr (Janice) of Danielson; daughter, Diane Wagher (Al) of N. Grosvenordale; sister, Annette Navaro of Dayville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Norman Varieur and sisters Helen Clark and Jeanne Ricci.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m.. June 1 in Valade Funeral Homes, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, with a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dayville. Donations: Day Kimball Homemakers, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

Edward Thayer
FAIR HAVEN, Vt. — Chester Thayer 77, of Fair Haven, formerly of Eastford, died May 27, 2011. He was born on Aug. 31, 1933, in Orwell, Vt. Chester was a twin born to the late Chester Erza and Grace (Lapsher) Thayer.
Chester married Anna Farkas on Sept. 8, 1951, in Bridport, Vt. They have celebrated 59 years together. Throughout his life, Chet lived in Hubbardton, Castleton, Poultney and Fair Haven, Vt., and Eastford. He worked as a farmer, a mechanic, and loved his workshop. He was always tinkering with something. He loved Nascar racing and going to Devil’s Bowl in Vermont and Thompson & Stafford Motor speedways.
In addition to his wife, he leaves five daughters: Bonita King (Steve) of North Carolina, Donna Spink (Peter), Anna Bryant (Terry) and Mary Freeland (George), all of Connecticut, Paula White (Herbert) of Massachusetts; three sons: Chester Thayer II (Betty) of Rhode Island, Frank Thayer (Beth) of Connecticut and John Thayer (Lisa) of Vermont; sister Muriel” Mert” Leonard of Vermont; 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by brothers: Lester and Harold, sisters Rose Bryant and Betty Alger; daughter-in-law April Bourn Thayer and grandson Christopher Michael Thayer.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, with the funeral at 11 a.m. June 2 at the funeral home. Burial is in Grove Cemetery, Eastford. Donations: Anna Thayer, PO Box 661, Hydeville, VT 05750 to help with medical expenses.
Doris E. Savoie,

LISBON — Doris E. Savoie, 92, of Lisbon, formerly of Danielson, died May 30, 2011, at Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam. She was the wife of Arthur J. Savoie. They were married Sept. 30, 1939. He died in 1975.
Born March 5, 1919, in N. Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Sylvia (Blanchette) St. Germain. She attended Wilsonville Elementary School. After moving to Danielson she attended St. James School and Killingly High School. She was employed at several local mills including the former Powdrell and Alexander Mill, working in the lace department and later at Majestic Company in Moosup, working as a polisher.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Taftville and St. James Church in Danielson.
She leaves her son, Dr. Dennis Savoie of Cooperstown, N.Y.; a brother Henry St. Germain of Putnam; three grandsons, Mathew, Benjamin, Jonathan and two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Christopher. She was predeceased by her siblings: Emile St. Germain, Berthe Brouillard, Ida Landry, Oliver St. Germain and Lorraine Senecal.
The Funeral will be at 10 a.m. June 3 from Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, Danielson. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

WOODSTOCK --- Cecile ( Chauvin) Wonoski, 81, died peacefully at her home with her family at her side Tuesday, May 24,2011. Her husband of 49 years, Louis Wonoski Sr. died in 1996
She leaves one daughter: Jacqueline S. Piasta of Woodstock; one son: Louis “Rocky” Wonoski Jr. of Woodstock and his fiancĂ© Kim Donovan of Putnam; one sister: Blanche and her husband Fredrick Davis of Mims , Fla.; six grandchildren Eric Piasta and his wife Colleen of Webster, Danielle Piasta of Woodstock, Nathan Piasta of Chelsea , Meaghan Wonoski of Putnam, Dustin Wonoski of Woodstock and Richard Benoit of Putnam and great-grandchildren, Veronica and Erika Phillips and Benjamin and Isbella Piasta; caregiver and “adopted” grandson Patrick Sleigher. She was predeceased by siblings Rita Lamiotte, Anita Hemingway, Clarence, Eugene and Richard “George” Chauvin.
Cecile was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Eusebe and Antoinette (Fontaine) Chauvin. She was raised in Webster and worked Bates Shoe and retired from Stevens Linen in Dudley at the age of 76. She lived in Woodstock for over 50 years .
