The 2011 Putnam Rotary Club Golf Tournament has been in existence for more than 20 years.  During that time it’s grown to become one of the area’s most successful and popular tournaments.
Prior to the start of this year’s tournament, Rotary Club President Joyce Duff and longtime Rotarian Charles Puffer took a moment to inform the golfers, volunteers and guests in attendance that the event will now be known as the Putnam Rotary Club Ronald P. Coderre Golf Tournament.
The move was made in honor of Coderre, a Rotarian for more than a quarter of a century, for his dedication to the tournament and the work he’s done in elevating the tournament to new levels.  More than 20 years ago Coderre served as chairman of the initial tournament.
“Ron has always lived the motto of Rotary, which is, ‘Service Above Self.’  During his time in Rotary he’s been responsible for initiating such events as the Ray Brousseau senior basketball game, the former Chili Nite, the Rose Sale, the 2-20 Club and other projects,” said Puffer. “And though there have been many committee members who’ve assisted with the golf tournament, Ron has truly been the workhorse who’s brought it to the success it enjoys today,” Puffer added.
Before the start of the tournaey President Duff and members of the golf committee unfurled a banner proclaiming The Ronald P. Coderre Golf Tournament. “I’m honored and humbled by this significant tribute from my fellow Rotarians.  Rotary is a great organization and I’m pleased that I’ve been fortunate to have the time to make it very special in our area,” said Coderre.
