Putnam Bank,
The Gold Eagle
honored by
Rotary tourney
By Doc Cody
A pair of prominent local businesses received special recognition during the awards program at the Putnam Rotary Golf Tournament June 3 at Connecticut National Golf Club.
Putnam Bank and The Gold Eagle Restaurant at the Laurel House were presented the first Ace-in-the-Hole Awards for their special contributions in helping the tournament achieve the success it’s witnessed in the past four years.  The tournament netted more than $27,000 toward the Club’s scholarship and charitable donation programs; bringing the four-year total to $100,000.
Putnam Bank has been the tournament’s lead sponsor for the past four years.  Since the bank came on board with its leadership support the golf tournament proceeds have risen substantially.  The Gold Eagle Restaurant at the Laurel House has been the Cart sponsor during the same time period that Putnam Bank assumed its role.
In accepting the award Putnam Bank Chairman and CEO Thomas A. Borner said the Putnam Rotary Club was an organization he viewed as vital to the communities it serves.  According to Borner, as a community bank, Putnam Bank is supportive of many community causes, realizing the need and the mission of groups such as the Putnam Rotary Club.
P. J. Malcoon, owner of The Gold Eagle at the Laurel House, was surprised and humbled by the recognition, thanking the large audience on hand for this meaningful tribute to his support.
In addition to Putnam Bank and the Gold Eagle at the Laurel House, other sponsors included Tournament sponsor Wheelabrator – Putnam and Food sponsor Citizens National Bank.  Tent sponsors were The Center for Bone & Joint Care, Advantage Home Medical and Oak Knoll Builders of Putnam.  Putnam Ford was once again the sponsor for the automobile for the hole-in-one competition.
Major Sponsors included Archambault Insurance, BARR, Inc., The Byrnes Agency, CME Associates, ERW Inc., Gerardi Insurance Services, King Cadillac GMC, Loomis Real Estate, The Newell D. Hale Foundation, Northeast Flooring and Kitchens, Rawson Materials, RPC Associates, and Woodstock Building Associates.
Gold Sponsors were BenPe Consulting of Putnam, Day Kimball Hospital, Farm Credit East Northeast Dental Associates, Paquette Electric Co., Sunnyside Farms and WINY Radio.  The tournament also featured more than 70 tee sponsors from throughout northeastern Connecticut.
