PUTNAM — In their first state tournament game since 2004 the Lady Clippers weren’t able to come up with a victory, losing 8-0 to East Granby.
East Granby’s pitcher Michaela Gathers threw a great game, holding the Lady Clippers to four hits while striking out 15 and giving up one walk.
“Man she was tough in the circle today. She had a an unbelievable change-up that kept our batters guessing all day,” said coach Steve Smith.
For Putnam and pitching in her last game, senior Stephanie Baumuller struck out four and walked four in a losing effort.
The Lady Clippers were led by Holly Desrosiers who went 2-3 at the plate with a double. Taylor Trudeau and Julie Therrien each had a hit.
“We had a great season compared to last year. I can’t wait to get back at it next season. Things are looking up for this program,” said Smith. He added he’s only losing three seniors. Last year's record was 2-17 and this year's record was 11-8.
