Volunteer Gardeners
Russ and June Edwards of Woodstock were two of the many volunteers who planted flowers at Roseland Cottage.

WOODSTOCK --- Each year in late May Roseland Cottage museum warmly welcomes the time and effort of dedicated volunteers that plant thousands of geraniums, heliotropes, cosmos, salvias, calendulas and much more in the home's 21 formal parterre gardens.
The varieties of annuals added to the garden follow Henry C. Bowen’s original plant order in 1850.   Staying true to 19th-century garden plans, volunteers make a great effort to plant the masses of annuals in ribbons and solid blocks of color, a technique known a carpet bedding, to create beautiful patterns of color.
The planting project is so extensive that it takes three or four days to complete the work.
New volunteers are always welcome --- call Roseland Cottage at 860-928-4074.
