Richards pg 3 8-4-11

POMFRET — Timothy Richards officially began his tenure as Pomfret School’s 12th Head of School July 1 and said he and his wife Anne are “excited about this opportunity and are absolutely thrilled to be here.”
He joins Pomfret after 23 years of service at St. George’s School in Rhode Island. During his tenure at St. George’s, Richards served as a French and psychology teacher, coach, dorm parent, dean of Students and, most recently, the assistant head of school for Student Life.  Prior to St. George’s, he was on the faculty at both Wilbraham and Monson and Groton schools, both in Massachusetts.
He said he and his wife look forward to being involved in both the Pomfret School and northeastern Connecticut community.
He added, “Schools are fundamentally about three things: people, values, and program. The interplay between these three components defines schools like Pomfret.  We have a responsibility to safeguard the principles that we have inherited and to promote the core beliefs that have been handed down for generations while finding ways to make them real and useful for today’s students. I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students of Pomfret to preserve the school’s core values and move it forward.”
