PUTNAM — Hungry visitors to the Putnam Car Cruise Aug. 14 will find a reasonably priced breakfast available at Someplace Special Restaurant, 58 Main St. The breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The Putnam restaurant is joining with the Mayotte-Viens American Legion Post #13 in putting on a benefit breakfast in support of the unit’s youth activities and the proposed veterans’ home in Jewett City.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast is $10 per person. Diners will be treated to scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, juice and coffee. Chefs Tony Pasiakos, owner of Someplace Special Restaurant, and Mike Vassar, restaurant manager, will be on the griddle, showcasing their culinary skills. Table service will be provided by the veterans of Post #13.
“We’re very pleased to be partnering with the legionnaires. This group of veterans has been actively providing for the young people of our community. This is definitely a worthwhile endeavor,” said Vassar.
American Legion Post #13 under Commander Norman “Barney” Seney has been active in support of the Tri-Town American Legion Baseball team. This spring the post sent two male students to Boys’ State and one young lady to Girls’ State. They also are planning to send a youngster to the State Police Youth Academy.
During the last school year a member of the post provided Americanism programs at Pomfret Community School and Putnam Middle School.
“We’re very proud of all the activities we’ve been involved in with area youth. We feel it’s extremely important as these youngsters are the future of our country. This breakfast is one of our primary fund-raisers in supports of these programs. We’re hoping people will come in and enjoy breakfast and support our efforts” said Seney.
Post #13 has also made a financial pledge in support of The American Legion Veterans’ Home planned for Jewett City. When completed this facility will provide housing for homeless veterans, especially the young men and women returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Advance breakfast tickets are available at Someplace Special Restaurant and from Post members or by calling 928-6772.
