THOMPSON —   TEEG recently awarded scholarships to three local students who exemplify the sense of community stewardship and citizenship that created TEEG.
This year’s winners are: Siri Rosendahl of Woodstock, and Elana Aiello and Robert Silva of Thompson.  “Each of these students was chosen for their commitment to the community as well as their dedication to important causes,” said Stacy Rodecap, TEEG program manager.
Aiello has been active with a local Girl Scout troop for the past 11 years and has volunteered with Day Kimball Hospital hoping for a career in health sciences. She was also involved in the People to People Student Ambassador Program traveling to Italy, Greece and France. She said, “I want to make a positive change not only in my home town community, but also in the world wide community.”
Rosendahl was involved in Student Outreach at Woodstock Academy, and volunteers for FRESH (Family Related Effective Services for Humanity), and Amnesty International. She hopes to continue her work in outreach and said that TEEG has been influential in her decision.
Through his volunteer work at Northeast Communities Against Substance Abuse, Silva learned about community organization and program coordination, skills he applied in his own community. He spearheaded “Support Your Court,” organizing a group of kids to refurbish a basketball court that was scheduled to be removed due to vandalism. Together the group swept, weeded, picked up trash and painted the court. The Thompson Little League Commission was so impressed with their work that they voted to replace the hoops and re-open the court.
