Gertrude Emmitt,

POMFRET — Gertrude Mary Emmitt of Seely- Brown Village, died Aug. 29, 2011, at the age of 100 after a short illness. She was born May 19, 1911, in West Haven, to Charles and “Lilli” Lewis.
Gertrude will be remembered for her persistent smile, laugh, and zest for life. As a minister’s wife, she devoted most of her life to caring about others. She was an enthusiastic and inspiring artist, painting her last picture at the age of 100 and submitting it to the Woodstock Fair where her art won several blue ribbons over the years. She was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene.
She was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband, Rev. George Emmitt, and her five brothers and two sisters. She leaves two children, Judith DiMaria (Bruce) of Killingly, and G. David Emmitt (Karen) of Charlottesville, Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Funeral was Sept. 2 at the Church of the Nazarene, Danielson, with interment in the Northford Cemetery, Northford. Donations: Nazarene Missionary Society, Church of the Nazarene, 440 Westcott Road, Danielson, CT 06239. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Leonard H. Auger,
Vietnam war vet
Mr. Leonard H. Auger, 66, of Wartrace, died Aug. 30, 2011.
A native of Putnam, he was the son of the late Leonard and Ruth Burdick Auger. He was a retired sheet metal worker, a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, and was of the Catholic faith.
He leaves three sons; Mark Anthony (Cynthia) Auger of Normandy, Michael Paul (Michelle) Auger of Texahoma, Texas, and Leonard Herman (Laura) Auger III of Putnam; two granddaughters; Kirah Rasmussen and Angelica Auger, and one grandson; Leonard Herman Auger III.
Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam.
Cathy Ann Corey,

PUTNAM — Cathy Ann Corey, 38, of Chapman Street, died July 22, 2011, at Day Kimball Hospital, due to a heart condition. Cathy was born May 30, 1973, in Norwalk, daughter of the late Donald A and Gloria J. (Thibeult) Pope.
She was a dedicated, loving and caring, mother, and proud of her catholic faith.
She leaves her infant daughter, Alyssa Warren of Putnam; two sons, Koby Corey of Putnam and Aiden Warren of Putnam; a sister, Denise Pope of Bridgeport; two brother,: Dominic Pope of Dayville, James Pope of Brooklyn; step brother William Corey of Massachusetts; fiancé, Richard Warren of Putnam.

‘Wimpy’ Heath
PUTNAM — Rayburn G. “Wimpy” Heath, 84, of Woodstock Avenue, died Aug. 27, 2011, at Regency Heights, Danielson after a brief illness.
He was born in Sept. 22, 1926, in Coventry, Vt., son of Albert and Ivah (Sanville) Heath.
He worked for 30 years at International Garage, Union.
He leaves a brother Raymond Heath Lurena) of Pomfret; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and a sister.
Graveside services were Sept. 3 at Putnam Heights Cemetery. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Asta Nichols,

PUTNAM — Asta Nichols, 81, of Bibeault Street, Putnam, died
Aug. 28, 2011, at Regency Heights in Danielson. Asta married
her love, James Nichols on Aug. 25, 1954, and had 52 wonderful years of
marriage. He died Sept. 8, 2006.
She was born May 20, 1929, in Baden-Baden, Germany, daughter of Albert and Anna Rosenkranz. She had an exceptional love for animals.
Asta worked for American Optical Company, Southbridge, for many years.
She leaves nieces, nephews, two sisters-in-law Theresa Olson and Dot Nichols.
Graveside Services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 9 in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Gerald D. Page,
WWII vet
POMFRET CENTER — Gerald Denis Page, 85, of Pomfret Center, died Aug. 26, 2011, at home. He was the husband of the late Mary Jean (Gallup) Page. They were married in 1974, she died March 23, 2003. His first wife, Dorothy (Poitras) Page died July 20, 1973.
He was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Killingly, son of the late Dieudonne M. and Antonia M. (Marchessault) Page.
He attended St. James Parochial School and was a 1943 graduate of Killingly High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in 1950.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He served as a member of an elite group developed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff directly. Top secret group’s existence, code-named Ivory Soap, was not declassified until 1990s. He was awarded battle stars for campaigns in the Marianis, Iwo Jima and the air war against Japan.
He was employed at Hamilton Standard Division of United Aircraft at East Hartford and Windsor Locks. He was appointed Local and District 91 Organizer in 1954, later to International Staff as Special, then Grand Lodge Representative. Promoted to Assistant to the General Vice President with offices in New York and Washington. During his 34 year career with IAM, he was responsible for representing his organization before eight Regions of the National Labor Relations Board. He was involved in organizing campaigns, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and arbitration/mitigation proceedings and had administrative responsibility for over 200 full-time representatives from 1968 until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid Red Sox Fan.
He leaves his children Mark J. Page of Woodbridge, Michael G. Page of Boynton Beach, Fla., Nicolette P. Musco of Northford; brothers Bernard Page, René Page; sister Arlene Kearney; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jean Marie Roy,

S. WOODSTOCK — Jean (Cady) Roy died Aug. 28, 2011, at home. She leaves her husband of 58 years, James L. Roy. She was born in 1935, daughter of the late Eugene and Regina (Gagne) Cayer.
Jean worked at Linemaster Switch and worked for many local families as a housekeeper. She enjoyed vacationing in Maine.
In addition to her husband James she leaves one daughter, Deborah Lucier (Gary) of Putnam; two sons, Richard Roy (Marjorie) of Woodstock, Michael Roy of Camden, Maine; one daughter-in-law, Jill Delano of Camden; two sisters, Beatrice Sumner of Pomfret, and Barbara McDuffie of Putnam; six grandchildren, Jonathan Roy (Melissa), Kyle Lucier (Sarah), Jennifer Kindle (Paul), Ryan Lucier, Avery and Eliza Roy; five great grandchildren, Ezra, Dathan, Evan, Addison and Kiely. Jean was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur Cady, Lewis Cady, George Cayer, and Norman Cady; and two sisters, Florence Adams and Blanche Defocy.

Walter H. Edwards,
Vietnam war vet
PUTNAM — Walter H. Edwards, 63, passed from this earth into the loving arms of God, Aug. 20, 2011. He was the husband of holly edwards. Although together more than nine years, they were married May 21. He was born in 1948.
Mr. Edwards was stationed in Germany as a medic with the Army during the Vietnam war. He was self-employed as a landscaper and was a fan of NASCAR, and of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed his days spent with holly in Plymouth, Mass.
Besides his wife, he leaves his parents, Francis Howard Edwards and Pauline Edwards; daughter, Heidi Edwards-Brodack; brothers, Wayne Edwards (fiancé Denise), and Dennis Edwards; sister Sherry Engh (Peter); granddaughter Jordan LePage. He was predeceased by his brother, Dale Edwards.

Yvonne A. Cournoyer,

PUTNAM — Yvonne Anita Cournoyer , 91, died Sept. 4, 2011, at Mid-State Medical Center, in Meriden, following a brief illness. Born on Nov. 24, 1919, in Putnam, she was the only daughter of Adelard Cournoyer and Exepherinia (LaMothe) Cournoyer and was predeceased by one brother who died at birth.
Ms. Cournoyer graduated from Putnam Catholic Academy and was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Putnam. She was employed for many years by Hale Manufacturing until she retired.
She leaves her younger brother, Joseph A. Cournoyer (Jeanne Theresa LeBeau) of Meriden, nephews, Joseph Cournoyer Jr. (Catherine Dubarek), of Wallingford, James Cournoyer and partner Patrick Bufford, of Durham, niece, Jeanine Cournoyer Hanlon Jr. (Edward) of Meriden; great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8 in the Gilman Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Rosemarie Heath,

PUTNAM — Rosemarie B. (Jason) Heath, 73, of Ballou Street, died Aug. 31, 2011, at Women & Infants Hospital, Providence. .
She was born in Boston, daughter of the late August and Henrietta (McCarthy) Jason and lived in Putnam most of her life.
She leaves her daughter, Theresa Doucette of Thompson; her daughter and caregiver, Diane Thompson of Canterbury; three sisters, Loretta Patnaude of Putnam, Lillian Carbone of Stoughton and Jeannette Lespasio of Putnam; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, August “Gus” Jason.
The Funeral will be held at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 10 in Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster. Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m.
