PUTNAM ---  The Day Kimball Hospital Give it a TRI triathlon was moved up by one day, in deference to Irene, yet still drew 209 athletes who raised money for  education, equipment and programs for patients at the DKH Plainfield Healthcare Complex.
The event, the first-ever DKH fund-raiser triathlon, featured local athletes in a half-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run. Not only was it a fund-raiser, but it also promoted fitness and health in our community, according to Charlene Leith Bushy, DKH's director of communications.
She said Day Kimball Healthcare does not yet know how much money was raised, but the turnout was excellent, especially for a first-ever event. She added that 129 individuals competed in all three legs and 80 participants were part of relay teams.
The race started at Moosup Pond.
The first five teams included: Crystal Gauvin, Wendy Caron and Kristen Lescault in first with a time of 1:13:44; Christian Dee and Catherine Dee with a time of 1:21:35; Joseph Tetreault and Jeffrey Savoie with a time of 1:26:20; Renee Smith, Annmarie Thibodeau and Michelle Rawcliffe with a time of 1:28:10 and in fifth: Jared Lambert, David Conrad and Michael Denis with a time of 1:28:25.
