David L. Gagne Sr.,

QUINEBAUG — David L. Gagne Sr., 57, of Highland Drive, died Oct. 24, 2011 at home. Born in 1954 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Leo and Pauline (Guertin) Gagne.
Mr. Gagne worked as a package machine operator for Frito Lay.  He loved to cook and ride his motorcycle.
He leaves his son, David L. Gagne Jr. of Thompson; step-daughter, Tammy Doss of Plainfield; brother, Daniel Gagne (Deborah) of Dayville; sisters, Barbara Steere (Timothy) of Putnam, and Nancy Smith (Linnell) of Tennessee; grandchildren, Parker, Preston, and Amber.  He was predeceased by his sister, the late Sandra Dexter.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St, Putnam. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.

Marguerite Wetherbee,

THOMPSON — Marguerite June (Fifield) Wetherbee, 85, of Thompson, died Oct. 21, 2011, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Plainfield.
She was  born June 16, 1926, in Milford, Mass, to the late Harry and Lydia Fifield. She was one of six sets of twins born to the couple. Peggy attended Thompson schools and graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School. She was a longtime member of Putnam Baptist Church.
She married Edgar Wetherbee Jr. on Aug. 31, 1946, at the First Congregational Church in Thompson. Before retirement, she worked for the Windham Area Community Action Program. Peggy was a dedicated social worker.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, she leaves three children, Linda Collins of Killingly, Edgar Wetherbee III (Cynthia), of Webster, and Diane Wetherbee of Thompson; four grandchildren, Kathleen Collins (Jason) Stradling, Dawn Shea (Richard) Nora Collins, and Melissa Wetherbee; and one great-grandson, Nathan Shea; brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Desrosier, Paul Fifield, Franklin Fifield , Eleanor Pepin and Kendall Fifield. She was predeceased by siblings Claire Takessian, Della Lewis, Harriet Chenette , Helen Fontaine, Charlotte LaPalme, Harry Fifield, David Fifield, Richard Fifield and Benjamin Fifield.

Jacqueline Oatley,

E. KILLINGLY — Jacqueline A. Oatley, 80, died Oct. 22, 2011, at the Regency Heights Nursing Home after battling Parkinsons for many years.She was the wife of Herbert Oatley. They were married Aug. 30, 1950.
She was born July 9, 1931, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late William and Antoinette (Fournier) Grenon. Jackie and her husband Herb owned Colonial Paving and she performed all the bookkeeping services until her retirement. Jackie also worked for many years as a bookkeeper/secretary at Danielson Oil and Rogers Corp. She was employed at the E. Killingly Post Office for 27 years, and served as postmaster for seven years, retiring in 1992. She had made her home in E. Killingly with her husband since 1950.
She was an avid ballroom dancer. Jackie was involved in the PTA for Killingly Central School, devoting much of her time to the E. Killingly Fire Department and the women’s auxiliary, and a member of the Highland Grange in S. Killingly. She was a member of St. James Parish and was a reader at weekly Masses.
She leaves her husband of 61 years Herbert; five children: Roberta Flaherty of Melbourne, Fla., Herbert Oatley Jr. (Karen) of Killingly; Lori Altdorf (Ron) of Brooklyn; Michael Oatley (Monique) of Brooklyn; Michele Klein (Alan) of Trumbull; brother: William Grenon of Leesburg, Fla.; a sister Margaret Holland of Putnam; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Jim Flaherty; brother Donald Grenon; a sister Theresa Johnson; sister-in-law Grace Grenon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 28 St. James Church, Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations: National Parkinson Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.

DANIELSON --- Memorial Services for Donald W. Steen will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at the St. James Church.

Norman Schroth Sr.,
WWII vet
DANIELSON — Norman E. Schroth Sr. 90, of Hillside Terrace, died Oct. 23, 2011, at Matulaitis Nursing Home after a long-term illness. He was the husband of Joan (Danton) Schroth. 
He was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Wauregan, son of Emile and Exilia (Poirier) Schroth.  Norman was employed at Kaman Aerospace in Moosup for over 28 years, working in Shipping and Receiving. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army, a life member of the VFW Post 10284, Moosup.  His family and friends always came first and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He leaves his wife Joan; children Norman Schroth Jr of New York, Robert Schroth of Killingly, Bernard Schroth of Brooklyn, Roshana Schroth of New London; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 
A memorial service will be held later. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.
