THOMPSON — The Thompson Congregational Church will present a concert by world-renowned organist Stuart Forster at 4 p.m. Nov. 20 to rededicate the historic Doane Memorial Organ.
The free event at the Thompson Church, at the junction of routes 200 and 193, is in celebration of the successful drive to complete restoration of the church’s historic Johnson Tracker organ by installing the final rank of cornopeon pipes that had until now been missing. To accomplish this the church and community raised more than $12,000.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear a world-class organist play in northeastern Connecticut and to thank our supporters in this project. Our church is enthused about the event, an opportunity to hear its historic organ as it has never been played before,” said Pastor Jennifer Cook. “We encourage the public to come and to celebrate with us.” A reception will follow the performance.
Forster has been director of Music and organist at Christ Church, Cambridge, Mass., since 1999. His credentials include a concert career that spans both hemispheres. He has served concurrently at Yale University as an accompanist and organist to the interdenominational Marquand Chapel at Yale’s Divinity School. He is also a composer of an impressive array of hymns and anthems.
