Emma B. Robillard,

PUTNAM — Mrs. Emma B. Robillard, 103, of Ella Grasso Gardens, died Oct. 30, 2011. Mrs. Robillard was the wife of the late George Robillard. Born Jan. 2, 1908, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Malvina (Dutil) Bourget.
She leaves her daughter, Sr. Jacqueline Robillard, DHS of Putnam; nephews, Paul Robillard (Diane) and George Cote (Mary Ann); a cousin William Corriveau (Sharon).
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 in the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Provincial House Chapel, 72 Church St., Putnam. Visitation will take place one hour before Mass. Roger D. Paquin,
Korean war vet
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Roger D. Paquin, 75, of Port Charlotte, formerly of Danielson, died Oct. 21, 2011, at the Tampa General Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn (Horn) Paquin. They were married in Whipple’s Chapel, Aug. 10, 1996, and companions for 40 years.
Roger was born April 16, 1936, in Danielson, son of the late Alde and Marie (Cote) Paquin. A graduate of St. James School and Killingly High School. Roger worked for Kaman Corp in Moosup from which he retired and also worked as a bartender at Hank’s Restaurant in Brooklyn.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war, serving two years in Seoul Korea. He loved music and played with The Misty Blues and The New England Sounds for many years. He was a life member of the Danielson VFW Post 2650, American Legion Post 0091, Danielson Elks Lodge #1706 where he held a 39-year membership. Roger was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Parish of Port Charlotte and a former communicant of St. James Church.
He leaves his wife Carolyn; son Anthony Paquin of Bowling Green, Ky.; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two sons Richard and Gerard and a brother Raymond Paquin.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 29 in St. James Church, Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors. John F. Hession,

THOMPSON — John “Jacky” Hession, 50, of Sand Dam Road, died Oct. 30, 2011, at home. Born in 1960 in Putnam, he was the son of John D. Hession and Constance (Lonergan) Hession, both of Thompson.
Mr. Hession worked as an estimator for Norampac in Thompson for 34 years. He loved golfing, singing, and rock and roll music. He was a member of the Saturday 3:00 pm Club.
In addition to his parents, he leaves his son, Michael J. Hession of Thompson; his daughter, Amanda Bonin (Jason) of N. Grosvenordale; brother, Dan Hession (June) of Uxbridge, Mass.; sister, Kathy Houle (Tom) of Thompson; grandchildren, Isabella and Aubri Bonin.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2 in Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. A gathering will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Sarunas Abromaitis,

WEST GROVE, Penn. --- Sarunas "George" Abromaitis, 43, of W. Grove, died Oct. 20, 2011, at the local hospital of complications from diabetes. He was the husband of Suzanne Ewing Abromaitis with whom he shared 18 years of life, 11 of those in marriage.
Born in Far Rockaway, N.Y., he was the son of the late Vytautas Abromaitis and the late Regina Begonis Abromaitis. He was a trained heating and air conditioning technician. He enjoyed having many dogs and cats, gardening, going fast, bicycling, cable TV, big sandwiches, bargain hunting, having fun and being generous when he was able.
He leaves his wife, Suzanne of W. Grove; brother-in-law Gregg Ewing; sister-in-law Kathleen Ewing and their children of Ocean City, Md.; Sister, Vilija Wootten and her family Chris, Harrison, Nicolas and their parents, the Woottens of N. Woodstock; numerous members of the Abromaitis family in Canada. Services were private. Donations: animal shelters, local hospitals and rehab centers. Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, Kennett Square, Penn.
Jody Calabrese,

EASTFORD --- Jody David Viets Calabrese, 45, of Eastford, husband of Lori (Manso) Calabrese, a young man who was respected and appreciated by all who knew him, died Oct. 28, 2011, at home. He had battled a brain tumor for over 10 years, and had three craniotomies.
Jody developed a love for farming when as a young boy he worked on his Grampy (William) Viets’ farm in E. Granby, and traveled to other farms with him listening to the stories farmers would tell each other. He grew up in Eastford where he enjoyed Little League baseball, Cub and Boy scouts, and fishing at Crystal Pond. He graduated from Woodstock Academy and then the Radcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture at UConn. He then worked as an inspector for the state Department of Agriculture. He became an avid fan of UConn basketball, and like his Dad, loved NY Yankee baseball. He also very much enjoyed watching his beloved sport, Jai Alai, especially with his good friend Pete Clark.
He became a committed and active Christian, and has been, along with his wife and children, a long-standing active member of the Baptist Fellowship Church of Columbia where he served as a deacon and videographer for their worship services.
He leaves his wife Lori; son, Zeph; triplets, Jodi, Evy, and Zoë; grandmother, Marjorie Viets of Farmington; mother, Nancy (Muffie) Viets Calabrese of Willington; father Tom and stepmother Linda Calabrese of Tolland; aunt Grace Ann in Vermont; uncle Peter in E. Granby; and aunt Judy in Florida; and siblings, Timothy Calabrese, Jamie Brätt, Tyler Calabrese, Amanda Shannon, Liberty Yancey, and Michael, Mark, and Audra Makuch.

Barbara Munson,

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. — Barbara E. Munson (Green) 64, R. N., Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., (retired) of Amelia Island, formerly of Eastford, died Oct. 26, 2011, after a 20-year battle with cancer. Wife of the late Jon C. Munson, they were married June 22, 1984. He died in 2001.
She was born in Middletown, N.Y., daughter of Thelma G. Green of Middletown and the late William K. Green. Barbara moved from her home in Eastford, to Fernandina Beach, FL in 2003.
Barbara was a 1968 graduate of the nursing program at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. She was an instructor in the Inservice Department at Horton Hospital in Middletown; in 1973 she was named “Miss Hope” and spent a year as an Ambassador of Good Will for the Middletown unit of the American Cancer Society.
In 1975 she traded her RN cap at Horton for captain’s stripes in the U.S. Air Force. She had a 21-year career with the U.S. Air Force retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. She also served with the New Hampshire Air National Guard. Her other assignments during her military service included the “Nightingale Express,” a 6,000-mile mercy mission that transported sick military personnel and their families from the Rhine-main airbase near Frankfurt, Germany, to Washington, D.C. Barbara worked as a registered nurse for Community Health and Home Care and at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She continued her career after her move to Florida at Shand’s of Jacksonville as a dialysis nurse.
Barbara was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Fernandina Beach and served with the choir.
She was a member of the Newcomer’s Club, a Lector and a former member of St Philips Church in Ashford.
She was also a member of the “Red Hat Society.”
She leaves, in addition to her mother, a daughter, Elizabeth Munson Scranton (Jason) of Eastford; a stepdaughter, Tamara Munson of Framingham, Mass.; four brothers, John R. Green (Marilyn) of Amelia Island, Michael K. Green of Slate Hill, N.Y.; William J. Green (Patricia) of Slate Hill, and James A. Green (Karen) of Westtown, N.Y.; sister, Mary Bartle (Guy) of Oahu, Hawaii; sister-in-laws Joy Ann Klare of Woodstock, Gail Elizabeth Cameron of Eastford.

Alice G. Savary,

PUTNAM — Alice G. Savary, 89, formerly of Ella Grasso Gardens, died Oct. 28, 2011. She was the wife of the late Normand Savary Sr. Born in 1921 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Kenyon) Bousquet.
Mrs. Savary worked as a bookkeeper for EastConn. She was a member of the Putnam Grange and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Albert J. Breault VFW Post. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and received several awards for her talents at the Woodstock Fair.
She leaves her son, Normand Savary Jr. of Putnam; her brother, Ernest “Sonny” Bousquet of Putnam; sister, Jean Bousquet of Putnam. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Frechette and Marjorie Gaumond.
Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.
Harvey W. Bowden,

ATTAWAUGAN — Harvey Wesley Bowden, 76, of Attawaugan died on Oct. 25, 2011. He was the son of the late Wallace and Elsie (Leathers) Bowden. He was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Wauregan.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Dawn (Racine) Bowden. They were married at St. James Church, Sept. 5, 1955. He attended school in Killingly. At 16 years old, he started working at the LaRosa Factory and then worked at UConn as an assistant cook. He then went to Jones Construction Company in Columbia. He worked at Danco in Elmville for 8 years as a master molder. He went to work at Electric Boat in 1962 and worked there for 20 years as a security guard.
From there he worked at the Brooklyn Senior Center and then went to N.E. Transit Co. as a bus driver for approximately 20 years.
He was a member of the East Brooklyn Fire Department for over 40 years.
He was an active firefighter and became captain of the fire police. He regularly attended The Church of the Nazarene in Danielson.
Besides his wife Dawn, he leaves seven children; Elizabeth Stewart (Lee) of E. Bridgewater, Mass., Bruce Bowden of Santa Clara, Calif., Debra Aubin (Andrew) of Sterling, Jefrey Bowden (Heidi) of Dayville, Pamela Bowden, Patricia Bowden and Douglas Bowden of Brooklyn, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Carlton; sister-in-law LouDell of Westfield, Ind. He was predeceased by his sister Loreen Warrender and brothers Delmont and Wendell.
A Memorial Service was Oct. 29 at The Church of the Nazarene.

WEBSTER — Theodore F. “Ted” Kawiaka, 78, of Webster, died Oct. 25, 2011, in Radius Healthcare Center, Southbridge, after an illness.
He was born and raised in Worcester, the youngest child of Michael and Anna (Zwolinski) Kawiaka, and lived in Webster since 1965.
Mr. Kawiaka was a technician at Coca Cola Company. He worked in Worcester and then in Westborough before retiring after 35 years.
Ted was a member of St. Joseph Basilica and of the Friends of the PAV. He belonged to the Local Teamsters Union in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Stasia B. (Jolda) Kawiaka; a daughter, Susan M. Levesque (Mike) of Putnam; three grandchildren, Briana Patriarca of Danielson, Rick Patriarca of Mobile, Ala., and Michael Levesque of Putnam. He was predeceased by a sister and several brothers.
