Mahoney is
Dazzle parade
grand marshal
PUTNAM — The Holiday Dazzle Light Parade committee has chosen Putnam resident and Korean War veteran Charles “Chuck” Mahoney to lead this year’s 10th annual parade.
According to parade organizer Gary Osbrey, “We thought Chuck should take a break this year and ride in the seat of honor as grand marshal.”
A tradition from year one has been the presentation of the American flag as the lead off to the parade. For the past nine years, Charles Mahoney, who is now 82 years old, has carried the American flag for the parade. “Chuck looks forward to carrying the flag every year and when asked to be the grand marshal, his biggest concern was who will carry the flag”, said Osbrey.
Chuck is post adjutant and trustee for Putnam VFW Post 1532 in Putnam. His son, Jim Mahoney, who also marches with his father, has assured the committee that the American flag will fly at this year’s parade, courtesy of the Putnam VFW. Charles Mahoney is a U.S. Army staff sergeant who served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. Osbrey added, “This is a one-year break for Chuck, and he assured us that he will be back carrying the flag next year”.
The deadline to enter this year’s Holiday Dazzle Light Parade Nov. 18. The parade will step off at 5 p.m. in downtown Putnam on Nov. 27 and the rain date is Dec. 4.
